Do you really think more power wins competition?? 500w rms for mids is not crazy but stupid. SQ is not about how much power do you have on each speakers. Unless he is using 5 components.

appleyard,
I dont think Jerry 2 stupid loorr... 500wrms just for Mid.. 'Only newbie will get Power Shock' when he saw that combination.. haa haa.. I'm sure Jerry not using normal raw driver loorr.. he like others competitor, some using Home Audio or Pro Audio c/w higher impedance like 6Ohm,8Ohm or 10Ohm.. When use this driver just half power will draw from amp.. let say 500w it become 200w min & 250w max..
btw as I know tarak 2ch amp class A/B in the market right now can produce 500wrms x 2 4Ohm wooorr.. even DMX only can reach 350wrms X 2 4Ohm (typical pwr)

I have a frend using DM just for his tweeter.. DM Typical pwr 200wrms.. ppl would say crazy ka? Infact he need that power coz his use 8Ohm tweeter.. 'Dyns Esotar'.. 200w actual at 4Ohm, when run with 8Ohm driver DM only can draw
The fact pegasus 2 excited leerr, actualy he did know what ppl doing...

Gti
Jerry own the SoundQuest, Cheras

Yes I know Jerry. he tuned lot of winning car. Even though i never met him but i know his reputation.

So you are telling me that he is using 500 watts amp to a 8 ohm speaker. well let me see........... if an amp is capable of 500@ 4 ohm and will do at 250 @ 8 ohm means he is powering his mid at 250w rms to his driver am I right???? Why does he do that basically its the ohm law. Then why are you saying 500w rms to his mid bass???? Why cant ppl explain that at a simple way???? Like you mention your friend with the tweets. Does he power them at 200w or 100 w???????

8 ohm driver are usually are meant for home speaker. Usually home speaker will perform better than car audio as it was meant for low powered big enclosure type .

using higher rms for speaker does not mean for blast it Loud, but to maintain the THD as low as posible, so why some SQ ppl with alot money will choice higher rms amp, run it easy and control. so not means stupid

1) I didn't said 500w maa.. just based on pegasus statement.. btw as I remember we oledi discuss it in gr8Tunes. there has no 2ch amp in the market can draw/pump 500w rms X 2 4Ohm.. the highers 2ch amp we found is VGA1600.2 & Human Reign 2 which can draw/pump 400w rms X 2 4Ohm..

2) ppl will said 200w when they look at the amp 'Genesis Dual Mono (DM)'.. but in technical only 100w or half than rating based on Ohm law laa.. my frend will explain when ppl asking him, why use DM not other amp? He always tell ppl 'I use 8Ohm tweeter' & 200w rating at 4Ohm.

Then I would have said I have mono amp which capable of 2000w rms@1 ohm, I am powering it at 2000 watts to my sub whereas I am actually powering it at 800 watts. It is misleading to other forumer. Even I have a sub who is capable of 2000w I cant power them at 2000 watts as car charging system wont be sufficient to power even half of it.

Believe it r not THD has little effect on sound reproduction and basically SQ. Its a markerting ploy to lure ppl that by adding extra features means ou have 2 times the SQ. Overpowering the speaker ma give you some headroom but it may shortening their life span.

Back in th days there are competitors who win IASCA with a 2 amp setup. How do they dp that, its because they know that efficientcy is important. More power does not always meant more SQ. But now most competitor are using 4 or 5 amp setup, not because they need more power but to impresses the judge. Looks does matter now in SQ. You get extra points just because you are using the latest gear. this has happened in the US IASCA competition.

high watt power doesnt mean low thd, or else when some ppl want to bridge their amp to get high power they dont know actually the thd becomes 100x worse for most amps...(from 0.002 become 0.2)

most low thd / high sn ratio amps are not high powered....
