not enough earth.... make sure theres enough earth... sumthing ur system can cause aeroplane sound..
kyheng said:Got airplane sound? Aiyah, why you using thick spark plug cable, like that sure got one. Better you add a ground cables in your. You have to change a thicker power cable also and a relay to cut off the airplane sound, blah blah blah...
This is the statement that will come out from shop installers. Looks like you are one of them. As I mention ealier, they tap the supply from battery to amp, not battery > alternator > amp. Alternator is involved on charging back the battery, but that is the later part. So install a higher powered battery is better. If original car battery is 45amp, then change to a 60amp output one. Mine is Century with 13 piece (60amp). Last time I also use a pre-amp and thick spark plug cable(8mm-9mm) with airplane sound, the installer said its come from the cable. But after I install Pioneer 5750 and bypass the pre-amp, guess what? The sound missing. Then I know that is pre-amp is the cause of problem, not the cable. But now the sound comeback, have to say just too bad, then go to a service center and check my battery is almost time to retire. The battery I used it for 2.5 years already. So again I have to say, battery does play an important role in ICE. People that come out statement with use thick plug cable can cause the problem is because they don't know about electronics. If they admit is their product got problem, then they can close shop already after some time. But the battery plays the main role in ICE is my opinion only, nothing to do with others, atleast this what I faced now. Not like some people, direct can say people's statement is false and his statement is right. We see things must be from both sides, not from own side only. In ICE, there are alot of topics related to this, not just ZTH only, if can try to serch the forums from the world one, there we can learn more from them.
trex92 said:dude, as long as u connect ur amp to the battery, the connection would be alternator>battery>amp and hence ur amp is indeed wired to the battery. If what u said is true on battery and thicker wires, meaning that even if i just use a standalone battery to power my ICE i would still get aeroplane sound...? :D :D Aeroplane sound aka alternator whine is from the alternator though could be caused by various factors (as in the next paragraph).
besides, i have done my homework also la, coz last time i had aeroplane sound and checked a number of forums and always they say the same thing ie check grounding for amp (might have ground loop), check power cables, and check RCA cables (maybe inferior quality). So far i never came across solution as use bigger batteries can overcome aeroplane sound....
As for the grounding kit one, it came from personal experience as i explained earlier, putting a grounding kit i overcame my aeroplane sound.
As for the spark plug cables, there is such a thing as EMI (Electro Magnetic Interence) which thick and poorly insulated spark plug cables produces. Again this came from my personal experience as explained earlier. This should not be mixed up with aeroplane sound. This could be the cause for our fren here as he described something tht sounds like EMI rather than aeroplane.
Yes, i agree that forum is good place to exchange ideas :) but if u know somebody else is wrong, don't u say it out so all parties can learn rite :)
ohhh.. one more thing, yes ur case is the pre-amp but did u check whether the grounding for the preamp is using thick wires or thin ones? Bad grounding for pre-amp would give same effect as bad grounding for amp and cause aeroplane sound.
kyheng said:Yes, what you say is true, but the way you say is sure the problem comes from this and that, this type of statement only come from some 'kids' that don't know much about ICE. Imagine if you go to a shop and buy his things then got airplane sound, did they ever say is come from their things? No, they will never say that even they know, first thing they will do is open your bonnet or ask did you change to a thicker plug cable. But the important part they will try their very best to skip it. You are driving a Putra right? Check your battery, it should be 13plates one, if yes then you change to 11 or 9 plates one then see what will happen. Mine now is 13plates and the plug cable is 9.5mm. When the battery is new got no sound, but now the sound is there as the battery old already. Alot of factors that can led to this airplane sound, the main is earthing no good, then follow by speaker cable, power cable, RCA cable, amps, pre-amp, eletronic crossover, battery(plates amount), alternator.

Check on the last part of the statement. Anyway when you use a 9plated battery will make your ICE have more airplane sound, as 9 plate cannot supply enough power to it.
Raymond_Hu said:hey guys, I have try a liitle while yestesday and I noticed this:
1) if I remove the "noise depressor?", adjust and relocating the RCA cables the "dd ddd dddd" sound will change to louder or disappeared. But when I rev, the aeroplane "weee" sound will come back.
2) if I use back the "noise depressor?", the "weeee" sound will be eliminated but still have the "ddd dddd" sound. By adjusting and relocating the RCA cable, the sound also will be changing to louder or silent.
Any more idea what will be the root cause? I don't think I use those think spark cable, it's the original black and small cable from the factory.
The one I have is cylinder shape. It is like the plastic cylinder cover use in flim for camera? If I remove it, the aeroplane sound will come back, but will the "dd ddd dddd" sound .....Is your noise depressor is like a transformer? If yes better you take it off. This thing will not help you, but give you more problem. Last time I when I use it, either it got no airplane sound or got pak pak pak sound...
dev said:i want to ask u guys... how u do ur earth wiring? single wire? thin o thick? like i said theres only 2 cost of these problem as i know.... 1st EARTH n 2nd failure in ur component... like i told KYHENG i never had this problem (touch wood)... i been playing sound system for 5 years but never faced it.. as i know my mechanic installed a very thick EARTHING cable 4 me... 1st grind the paint off the point... sholder it to the body not bolt it... try this way guys.. u might c the difference... im not a pro but its only my advice... cheerz...![]()
