Mat rempit nyaris rempuh kereta dipandu Sultan Pahang

KUALA LIPIS: Selama ini Sultan Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah tertanya-tanya siapa ‘mat rempit’ dan mengapa begitu banyak diperbincangkan mengenai mereka, sehinggalah baginda sendiri hampir menjadi mangsa mereka, Rabu lalu.

Menceritakan pengalaman menakutkan itu, Sultan Pahang bertitah, kejadian berlaku jam 10 malam pada malam raya pertama apabila dua mat rempit berlumba di hadapan istana baginda di Pekan, sehingga hampir melanggar kereta dipandu baginda.

Titah baginda, dalam kejadian itu dua motosikal yang dinaiki mat rempit terbabit tidak memasang lampu.

"Ketika itu, saya memandu kenderaan pacuan empat roda di luar pagar Istana Abu Bakar berdekatan Padang Polo di Pekan. Secara tiba-tiba, dua mat rempit memandu laju motosikal tanpa lampu menuju ke arah saya.

"Pada jarak kira-kira satu meter saja, saya berjaya mengelak kereta daripada merempuh mereka. Jika tidak, mungkin dua mat rempit itu terbunuh dilanggar kereta saya, pada hari lahir saya sendiri," titah baginda di sini, semalam.

Sultan Pahang bertitah, selepas kejadian mengejutkan itu, baginda kini memahami siapa dia yang dikatakan mat rempit.

"Saya tak sangka, dalam keadaan aman damai di Pekan, ada juga mat rempit, dan paling mengejutkan, mereka berlumba di depan istana saya, malah di depan saya sendiri.

"Saya tak tahu nak buat apa dengan mat rempit ini. Kita tidak boleh hentikan mereka naik motosikal sebab ini negara demokrasi.

"Jadi, terpulang kepada polis untuk mengambil tindakan membanteras mat rempit ini," titah baginda.

Sejak beberapa bulan lalu, isu mat rempit mendapat liputan meluas media dan turut dibincang menteri dan Perdana Menteri kerana perbuatan liar mereka dan mula bertindak ganas.

Pada 15 Oktober lalu, sekumpulan mat rempit membaling batu ke arah anggota dan Balai Polis Kubang Semang di Bukit Mertajam kerana membantah tindakan polis menahan dua rakan mereka kerana berlumba haram.

Sehari kemudian, kumpulan itu ‘menyerang' balai polis sama dengan membaling mercun bola.

Sultan Pahang mahu mat rempit menyedari bahawa perbuatan mereka itu tidak akan terlepas daripada tindakan undang-undang.

"Pepatah Melayu ada menyebut `jerat tidak akan lupakan pelanduk' dan mereka perlu hentikan kegiatan tidak berfaedah itu.

"Dalam kes saya, dua mat rempit itu berjaya ditahan," katanya.
