not really, unless the alternator is already in bad condition, i know many people upgrade 1 class higher, like from NS40 to NS60, or from NS60 to NS70 without any alternator problems..
cool, so this should solve my problem rite? can i know what is the difference in putting in a larger battery, cause i thought all battery puts out 12v. sorry newbie at this stuff
not sure, maybe solve, maybe not, we dont know your alternator charging capability still good or not....
all battery operates at 12-14V for the car and all electronics in it. just that different batteries have different ampere per hour (AH) rating and also different cold cranking amps.
so i need to change to a bigger battery? or just a new one. someone told me if i change to a bigger battery it would strain the alternator, is this true?
Yup, if Ur Alter state 70-75Amp than Ur battery 90Amp laaa.. dont ever overwrite ur Alter ouput (Amp) loorr.. if the Alter stated
1st check Ur new Alter.. if stated 90Amp look at 70Amp battery or 1 tonne lorry battery.. ending by L for car & Z for lorry.. if the prob wont solve, than go 2nd stage
2nd Upgrade or change Alter cable to battery & ground (chasis/engine block) to new 1 or thickers (0/1Awg).. cost could be <RM200
it does not matter to couple small alternator to big battery or vice versa. The effect will only be on the charging time.
Using big battery only extend your playing time in the parking bay.
Try upgrading first the cables from alternator to car body especially the -ve cable. usually the -ve cable is soooo small.
If you really concerned about blinking lights, hook capacitor to your headlights.
i have added a thicker cable. its like this, -ve battery to a screw on the gearbox. and a really thick one from engine to the car body. can i diy or should i take it to a car audio guy to put a thicker wire from alternator to body?
scoupe,
Why pull a long cable from -ve battery terminal to the gearbox? Also from engine to car body? why need to have these?
Cables shall be as short as possible so as to reduce the resistance.
1. Add another run of the +ve cable from Alternator to battery +ve terminal with bigger cable.
2. Change the -ve cable from battery -ve terminal to car body to bigger cable. Make it short and usually it is only about 1~1.5 feet long.
3. Add another run of -ve terminal on alternator to car body with bigger cable. Also make it as short as possible.
Please note that you cannot use the usual power cable that you buy from car audio shop. You must use cable with insulation rating that is rated at high temperature.
