Not sure what cars I would like in MY

I dont quite understand how to calc the costs.... apparently the age of the car has something to do with it?

Sooooo if one had their choice of local car to mod, what would that be? Tough question I know, try to exclude style.
hi GNandGS,

http://www.autoworld.com.my/tools/roadtax.asp

here.. thats a place to calculate your roadtax if you plan to live in west malaysia, east malaysia here (where i live) has slightly cheaper roadtax. Mind you tho that the unit is in cubic centimeter not cubic inch lol. a 3.8L engine would have over 5.7k MYR yearly roadtax, thats going to be roughly over 1.5 grand usdollar, not to mention the insurance.

however, if a car get a classic car or vintage car status, then you can get a reduction in roadtax.

heck.. 5.7k MYR is my household monthly income. no way in hell most citizen working in the public sector can afford nice big displacement engine.

car under 1.6liter engine got a 50% discount on roadtax btw.. my dad's 1.5liter only pays 90 MYR yearly lol :D

anyway, your car would be a left hand drive right? i wonder if it is posible to make it road legal.... *scratch chin*

Choices of cars? hmmm... okay these are my pick, considering that you are into the drag scene, used to turbos and loads of torque and HP.

1) Nissan A31 Cefiro 1988-1992

Rear wheel drive. Similar in size to the Nissan Maximas in the States. Second hand around RM20-25k. Standard engine 2.0 6cylinder RB20 NA. Japan spec-cars have 2.0 or 2.5 RB turbo engine similar to the skyline. other engines that fit are the twin turbo 2.6 RB26DETT from a Skyline GTR and 2.0 SR20DET from Nissan Silvia. Ideal for Drag and Drifting. Swap engines? Malaysia is littered with car breakers that import exotic Jap cars to dismantle here. In japan cars are scrapped after 5years as the retest fees are high. So all these fine turbo engines end up in Malaysia.

2) Proton Satria 1995-2005 / Putra 1997-2003

Front wheel Drive. The staple hatch and coupe in Malaysia. the coupe is similar to the Mitsu Mirage coupe / Dodge Colt of 1992-1995 in the states. Usually 2.0 4G63 turbo engines from Mitsubishi Lancer EVO1-3 is plonked into the engine bay. Prices 2nd hand RM15k-45k depending on model. FWD drag maybe?

i'll choose A31 or the R32....
supra kinda too wide, not suitable for malaysian road...
proton... well, its jz a proton... i'm sure u heard enough of bad stuff about proton cars in here...

Used cars are pricey eh? I still cant find exemption info for car age. 1986 models not old enough I wonder.

Good point on the Supra size. If I cant bring my car then buy a local for transport, the "all in one fun car transportation" thing will have to include considerations for ease of use. Being too long/wide is a real issue I think.

Wait, found more info. Having the wife translate this later (church ect today):

Something about 25 and 50 yo.

dude, as i heard, they only applied to stock original cars, if you touch the engine, swap it or otherwise, then you are not eligible. at least thats what i heard.

well, if i'm an american, and i like drag, i might find myself a first generation celica as those thing are probably the only jap cars that would resemble american muscles :D the mini version.

2liter 3sturbo, easily getting 350~hp with tons of torque (tho you might need to rev abit to have the turbo spool up) and i would say it really goes into the range of 11~ second if tuned properly, yet streetable. or if you get an ra28, which means come stock with 18rg 2liter engine then you might as well use that car and put in a 1jz, which is still within the 25% engine transplant limit i guess.

or.. find an old soarer, i heard its popular in the states too?

Off topic a little here;

If regulations here weren't so sucky, I would love to own a big, full fat, American muscle car from the 60's. Those are just so bad ass it hurts.

Ok, sidetrack over. Please resume with the discussion proper.
