if i may share my experience with materials experiments and usage.

this material, some call the NASA hose, (used extensively in movie props) is not good for car cold-air-intake.

it's simply too flimsy, can't take pressure, too fragile!
try putting it outta your window as you drive (someone drive la) at say, 100km/h.
that's a realistic speed ANYONE here can achieve right?

the damn thing can't keep it's shape, flops about, and when you use your hand to 'secure' it like a attached bellmouth would, the insides of the hose would just blow apart. Literally.
it simply can't hold pressure.
the inner surface is too rough aerodynamically to have efficient high speed air-flow.

then:
Aluminium (real-foil) hose

it's great, that's stiffer and holds it's bends and shape better.
air-flow is better, but not smooth..
heat resistance is good, and nice to look at (shiny ma)
but
too soft, can crumple way too easy, and expensive!
tears up too when subjected to alot airflow (very high speeds)

PVC flexible hose
its flexible, holds it's shape very well
smooth interior
holds pressure! (original designed for vacuum pressure)
comes in several diameters, 0.5inch increments. (starting from 1")
comes in lengths of 10-20meters. Plenty :)
but:
heat resistance is 60deg Celcius, so some cases need to wrap with SuperLon..
no metric sizes! argh..

hope this enlightened you guys :)

Smooth surface inside??? i tot i can tell the inside by looking at outside??? since outside is not smooth...

jaywat

need to check, since no common size!

it's SMOOTH INSIDE!
no joke! the ribs outside is the outer reinforcing structure ma..

How much is for 2' then? How big u think i should use? i'm using a carb engine...2' or 2.5'?

nightstalker

i'd recommend the 2.5"

2" is for K-cars, Kenari and Kelisa and also the Kancil :)

carb or EFi engines, same la.

Then how much is the 2.5' then?

From what I know, CAI is to provide cold air to your intake system.
I think it can be used for modded or N/A cars.

it allows ur engine to breath better air...rather than sucking hot air in the engine bay,CAI sucks air from outside n direct it to ur filter box.which is more dense.
thx stanley..i did mine purrfect edi

erm...sorry to hijack ur thread okie...

khguan:lol..pics cant upload to computer ler...i dun have the cable or card reader...if i can find, sure i post up for u tai lo's to see ok...

one question ar...i notice my fuel consumption higher too..is it normal..?
can feel pick-up more responsive la...so by right it SHUD drink more fuel than last time.. right??

well.. mayb u should run ur car for some time 1st... n monitor de FC.. mayb u feel ur car more pick up.. then play wit it...

my car also feel higher FC.. but i dun think its de CAI kua.. cos my muffler is old n start to sound diff... mayb less back pressure already..

it maybe abit higher cos now got more oxygen in the mix already, the ECU senses that and ups the fuel-ratio to compensate, :P hehe equals more power (in theory)

of course, you maybe also main tekan to 'test'..

Hey stanley...no such big pipe ar?? 3 - 4" diameter one...
