Minor update:
Fixed the not working reverse lights today. It was a faulty gear selector, a small piece of part in the engine bay, near the car battery there. Mechanic said to use halfcut, so just use halfcut lor. New part is RM800. Halfcut, RM180 for parts and labour. Feels much safer when reversing now.

That's not too bad a price but did you ask how is he going to replace the roof? I'm surprised it's that cheap considering he has to drill out the spot welds on the roof, align the new roof and weld-on all the bits. I hope he's not the type to just cut off the A-pillar side and weld on the new roof to the A-pillar.
I didnt ask. But he say in the process of replacing the roof he will need to remove windscreen. Not sure if that gives a clue to how he will do it.

Walaowei u guys, fix wira damn gao. Have u guys ever thought of 'upgrading' it to a slightly newer car like Persona? Basically same under pinnings as Wiras/Gen2/Waja.
Nah, just gonna repair and drive it, then see where this journey of mine takes me. The dream would be to take it to beyond 30 years of ownership (currently 24), but all depends on cost and whether my interest will still be there or not. TS also started with RM8k budget.. but it seems like he's repaired the car waaay beyond market value already. As someone mentioned earlier, can't put a price on a passion.

Welcome, I am also a newbie here. Still learning because this is the 1st time owning a old wira. Hahahaha

The car itself is nice. If you take good care thr driving experience is quite rewarding. Dun compare to those gsr swap wira la.hahahahahhaha
hahaha, that one cannot compare la. I just wanna keep things as stock as possible. So engine swap, dashboard swap all not in the picture. I guess your thread has become the 'handbook' for Wira repairs now... so much knowledge contained in here.

i thought the reverse lights were triggered by a switch by the shifter.....

also if they wana remove the windscreen, its sounds like they wana remove the entire roof... not a bad thing..

Gear selector? Uh... means you couldn't get into R gear in the past? Anyway - it's fixed so that's good.

Any chassis repair usually will involve removing the windscreen otherwise you'll risk cracking it. You should ask the guy if he'll cut the A pillars or not. If yes you might want to reconsider because that's one of the things Puspakom will check when you send the car there for inspection.

where do you get your car fix?
upwork racing workshop, jalan bukit kemuning, shah alam. but the queue sometimes a bit long. been going there since 2016 after i did my 93 swap.
the older persona la, same parts with MMC one, not VVT
my in laws have the campro persona. my father in law use but it wasnt maintain properly. tried fixing but i gave up. i have no patience. ahahaha. for example, engine oil he use semi unknown brand whatever the workshop recommends, open the valve cover once to fix the leaking rocker cover gasket (which he let it ran for years without fixing), inside all golden brown color. might need an overhaul. LOL

Time to use diesel engine oil.
The old campro even with iafm is sluggish.
The old persona have better handling compared to waja..at least thats what P1 claimed.

old man car will feel like old man. Lend the car to anyone in this forum and tell them min rev is 3k rpm and after a month take it back.

Does anyone driving 1.5 wira feeling gearing is abit short?
in 5th gear driving 100km around 3k rpm 120km 3.5k

I think my next step mod on my car is buy some sound proof to put at the bonet.

I noticed recently that my car vibrates more at night when my car is stopped (either in N or D gear). Initially I thought it was the A/C, but if that's the case then surely it is also unbearable during the day. But during the day the vibrations are not as strong. I have changed my engine mounting about 10 months ago.

I was quite puzzled, until I stumbled upon the cause today. The vibration intensifies when I turn on my lights (hence why I dont have this problem in daytime). Would having grounding cables help with this problem?

Also, I noticed that when I turn on my A/C when car is idling, my revs drop slightly. Is this a cause for concern? Car is an Automatic transmission, carburetor.

Not sure if that's the proper name. The mechanic called it gear selector. In the past I could still get into R gear. just no reverse lights only.

Will do, thanks for the tip!

Well, the car does not have much power so gearing had to match the power and vehicle weight...then car is made when fuel price is cheap2.

I would recommend to sound proof the frobt hood plus all 4 doors. I did that to my BLM...DIY with superlon.

My mom-in-laws Myvi was the same. Every week I go back she would complain how weak the car was. Then I'd take it for a test drive a few rounds around LDP each time revving the crap out of it. Everytime after that she'd ask me what I did cuz so much better to drive etc etc.

Time to use diesel engine oil.
On a unmaintained old junker? Better not. Later end up here leak there leak and wallet leak.

It's the engine capacity. If you had a 1.8 then you'd feel it is short. If you plonk in a 1.8 gearbox into you your 4G15 - it'll be slow and long geared. Compromise and go find out if they make aftermarket final drives for your Wira if you gatal.

Sound proofing - the question is what for? What do you want to achieve? Quiet drive? Less hot hood? Personally I wouldn't bother cuz sound proofing is heavy. I've driven the kosong spec Wira that didn't even have the bitumen strips and the performance difference is significant. Lighter is better unless you plan on blasting sound system stuff.

I don't know if Racetech still make their CAK but I'd suggest you do that first before sound proofing. It might even quieten down your drive a bit. (Chassis Alignment Kit)

sound proofing, i think the bonnet wont help that much....
engine noise - do the firewall, bonnet while i think can help, wont be much.. somore ur bonnet fiber kan
road noise - wheel arches and floor, trunk tar strip for weight to doors... step further would be foaming
wind noise - doors, seals, remove the stupid wind defectors, and if lagi extreme find smaller mirrors.

Hi all i was reading here before, but cannot find the topic anymore...
It was about wiring a 12v 30a relay to the existing coil and supplying direct power from the battery... thats all i can remember..... any sifu out there have any idea of this and maybe a post on the diagram will help...
It said to be able to supply a better spark to the plugs for more complete combustion

Thx:regular_smile:
