preamp and crossover

preamp first usually, have to see what u have first.

a electronic crossover

to seperate the high frequency and pass it to tweeters, the mid frequency to the mids or driver where u ussually find at the door panel, and of course the low frequncy to the subwoofer(usually big and bulky in your boot)all this u need an amp to drive all the invidual speakers. :D signal -> e.crossover -> amp -> speakers

a passive crossover

same stuff u find up there but this stuff doesn't need to feed in power :D usually come with those component speakers.the small little box :D signal ->p.crossover->speakers

pre amp

for use of those classic HU.where u dont find extra output for the rear, front and low :D to split the signal to the amp(s) to drive either front or rear or sub.note a pre amp doesn't come with crossover.

a small example of what i trying to say :D let say i wanna put a three way setup infront and rear of my car.how should i do it?that where the e.crossover come in :D a seperate 1 always better than those built in in the amp :D so an eq just tweak the sound in whole

PS:howiechoo why u need both running together?,all the latest HU can replace or does have a preamp funtion these day

Drop the preamp and get a crossover... pre-amps were made for older HU's whereby there was no fader controls and limited outputs.

Add the preamp cost to the HU cost and get a better HU.

let say sound not clear n vocal like sakit tekak like that,if add preamp will help to change the sound quality or not ha??

You may have other issues that needs to be looked at first.

bro. can give some tips to make it better. thanks a lot

err.. quite hard to give opinions if havent heard the sound but I'll try...

You need to post up what you have in your system first.

Most mordern crossovers can accept 1 input and have 2-3 outputs...

Then the level matching btw front and rear will be done via the amps...

Saves money too!

the thing about pre-amps is, it usually makes the sound worse and introduce more noise into the system, so better save up for a good crossover.

i remeber once i got a preamp and it just give me the aeroplane sound, once remove and the aeroplane gone :)
