Lets discuss Petronas E01

i dun think car crash is because simply upgrade engine..alll mechanic would suggest chassis and braking system upgrade too. maybe they dun want cheap car like wira overtake perdana, mercs, bmw, etc at highway..so the fast lane belong to luxurious car only...

hmm... no wonder why Tun was upset when MV Agusta was sold.
A vision to transfer motorbike technology into proton cars

so that they can develop their own high performance engine ala vtec? which we can revert back to the question 'why they want to do it when petronas has already done it and offered it to them at the first place??'

Well i'd say traditionally super bike tech is a bit more tested and proven. Besides that all the research and development has been done already, its just a matter of application i guess.

Who knows what the answer is... All we know is that we ain't got shit haha.

btw, china has already bought over the petronas E01 engine rite??... they planning to fix into what car arr??... will it be sold in malaysia??... if yes, there is possibility of halfcut E01 here.... wuakakaka...

Toyota used Yamaha to help produce their 2ZZGTE (Celica GTS 180bhp engine). Why? Here's my hypothesis. Super bike technology (Yamaha) is far more advanced than everyday car technology.

Lotus as a car company has not made an engine for a looooooong time. Not since the days of Colin Chapman and even then i can't remember whether i have ever heard of a popular engine Lotus made.

Lotus used Cosworth (Or at times Honda) engines in both F1 and in their sports cars (No Honda engines here :P) like the Lotus Espirit and if i am not mistaken also in the Elise GT1.

Lotus used Rover 1.8L 150bhp engines to power their road going Elises for the longest time until Lotus built the exige which now uses the 2ZZGTE Toyota VVTI engine. Interesting stuff, no?

Although on another interesting side note i have been told by a reliable source that there does exist a Campro engine with close to or over 200bhp and its still a 1.6L.
Yamaha, among being a Motorbike manufacturer, is also an Engineering Design and Build consultant (a bit like Lotus). The 2ZZ is more high tech than the 1ZZ as it has Metal Matrix Composite Liners (1ZZ iron liners), Variable Valve Timing & Lift (1ZZ only variable timing) and some other stuff that I've forgoten.

Lotus last Produced their OWN branded engine in 1993, the 3.5 litre V8 seen in the Esprits. However Lotus Engineering are/were involved in many General Motors Engines such as the Corvette ZR1's LT1 engine, GM's Ecotec series engines etc.

Lotus also used Renault Engines in F1 (In 1985 Ayrton Senna won his first race powered by Renault(Portugal GP), & in 1986 he won using a pneumatic actuated valve in a Renault powered Lotus, that being the first victory for a pneumatic valved engine.)

Reason the Lotus Elise/Exige uses Yamaha designed Toyota engine is supply and cost. Rover K-series are running out, and not US compliant and it's cheaper (for a tiny manufacturer like Lotus) to by a Globally accepted engine High Performance engine than design one. Especially since Lotus makes cars in small numbers.

The Rover K series that had 150bhp is the VVT K-series. Lotus also used the 118bhp version, 135 and 190 bhp VHPD K series engine.

The "close to 200bhp" CAMPRO exist but it's a strictly RACE engine.

I am pretty confident that if you wikipedia'd the lotus cars they used cosworth ford engines to power at least the espirit v8 twin turbo :D
Nope, Wikipedia is wrong.

The Ford Cosworth that powered Lotus were Normally aspirated and Those were Mid 60's to early 80's Lotus Formula one cars.

Esprit V8s were Lotus' own engine.

Is it possible that Proton don't want to use Petronas engine because they already have CPS for Campro via Lotus? What kind of Variable valve tech that Petronas use? Their own or sourced from others?

Driven the SIC GTI before.sound like a Yamaha design engine for me.
sadly not well kept
and whatever the reason is..it is sad that a good engine like this is not used by our own Proton.

Since we all keep discussing about the engine output, did anyone knew about the tranmission, ie short & gear ratio..close to what car.

Any real-life 'feelings' ?.(for those who got a chance to test drive the e01)

It looks like this engine will soon be used in proton cars, along with other engine technologies developed by Petronas… Are things finally looking good for our national car maker? Its up to them to fully monetize this advantage finally and to keep costs down for future cars… However, it is left to be seen what government relations Proton has to finally let go of the protection awarded to them for decades… On a personal note, I would like to see the potential of the 2.0 and the 2.2 forced induction engines that petronas has developed to allow Proton to finally capitalize on some of their intriguing concept designs and possibly work with companies like VW or Mitsubishi again for advanced 4WD systems such as the SAYC platform to bring out the compatitiveness of their racing divisions such as their rather dissapointing R3 division, touted to be their in-house tuning arm to rival TRD and Ralliart…
We shall see…
