H Getz or P Myvi, pls comments some!

Ah the perfect time to mention this. Why not a Smart ForFour 1.3? Incidentally Si Khiong Star is giving an RM40k overtrade for its Smart ForFour, and RM30k for the Smart ForTwo. Effectively, this qualifies the ForFour into this thread's fray:-

Getz 1.3 - ~RM60k
Myvi 1.3 - ~RM50k
ForFour 1.3 - ~RM63k

Let's see what the Smart has over the others:-

4 Airbags
Tridion Safety Cell
Seatbelt Pre-tensioners
95bhp 125Nm 1.3L MIVEC engine
ESP - Electronic Stability Programme
CBU Netherlands - same factory as new Mitsu Colt
20,000km service interval
6 gear clutchless manual
Electric steering wheel
Mercedes-Benz engineering
0-100 in 10.5s
HID headlamps
Rear disc brakes
Panoramic tinted glass roof

Best of all, it's the status symbol the Hyundai and Perodua just can't offer.

Status as a faltering, barely staying alive, loved by homos brand?

But, honestly...are they really selling the ForFour for 63k??? How's that deal work out? What's the catch?

I'm actually interested cos it sounds like one heck of a deal. Sounds too good to be true.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's favoured by homos since the outlook is very unorthodox. But then again, chicks are quite comfortable around homo-ish guys. The whole buaya-under-gay-facade does work sometimes. Just look at Jap boybands.

Perhaps the only thing that makes the car less gay (in a way) is the DSG-style gearbox which needs real manhandling to get the best out of. My only other gripe was that Smart has discontinued the 4/4, but according to DC they will manufacture parts for another 12 years. I'm sure they understand that they cannot simply abandon their premium customers.

I'll be digging into the finer details of the deal tomorrow. If the figures are true, I'm getting one for my parents.

Not so sure about the roadster but Cycle & Carriage along Federal Highway have one last unit and I'm sure you can squeeze some discounts out of them

Just got back from the ForFour test drive and best OTR price

1.5 = RM80,237
1.3 = RM64,167

All the above are assuming you are transferring 45% NCB and taking non-metallic colour.

Other notes:

There are 2 packages available:

1) RM30k overtrade :- you will be given an additional 30k over your car's trade in value. Just hand the registration card to the SA and they'll handle the rest.
2) RM40k brand new pre-registered :- need to sell your car on your own, or if you're paying cash or full loan. The reg card will have SKS as the first owner, but car is still brand new.

The cars are also '05 models.

Thanks prozac. A few questions though.

1) Why does the NCB matter?
2) Do they have restrictions on the value of the trade in vehicle?
3) For package 1; that effectively means the price of the ForFour would be RM90,237 for the 1.5 and RM74,167 for 1.3, or is it? Just to confirm.
4) For package 2; you're saying you get the 40k overtrade if you take a full loan, but do you still need to sell your own car?

1) Why does the NCB matter?
Insurance for the 1.5 brand new is RM3251. If you have NCB from an older car you intend to dispose of this will translate to some savings, since you now only need to pay RM3251 minus the NCB you have from your previous policy.

2) Do they have restrictions on the value of the trade in vehicle? No restrictions mentioned.

3) For package 1; that effectively means the price of the ForFour would be RM90,237 for the 1.5 and RM74,167 for 1.3, or is it? Just to confirm.
Correct. However, for this to happen they will value your car at their leisure.

4) For package 2; you're saying you get the 40k overtrade if you take a full loan, but do you still need to sell your own car?
Not necessarily full loan. You can pay cash too. Basically, the advantage to this is that you get more money from your current ride by selling it on your own.

In a nutshell; let them sell your car but only get 30k discount, or sell your own car and get 40k discount.

So, basically you don't actually have to sell your current car, right?

All you have to do is walk in, say you want a ForFour, and they'll give you 40k off the list price. Am I right in my assumption?

Correct.

Damn...sounds too fucking good. There must be a catch somewhere right?

I mean, this is basically a tarted up version of a Mitsubishi Colt. And how much are one of those selling for? Around Jazz money?

And these guys are saying that they'll sell you a car like that with a 30k discount?

Correction, it's a 40k discount. Like I said, there are several reasons why:-

1) ForFour is discontinued, so any stocks they keep is rapidly losing value
2) Daimler-Chrysler has about 200 of these in stock. Better to sell em cheap than be a write-off.
3) They are '05 units so in a week's time, they will be 3 years old on paper.

Nevertheless, it is an extremely fun car to drive and own. Totally full of character, from the glass roof to the revvy MIVEC engine. The 6-speed AMT gearbox is a wonder to use, and really encourages you to drive fast if you get the hang of it. If you're experienced, you can shift more smoothly than torque converters and manuals. Oh yeah, in manual mode it WILL hold the gear even if you're at high rpms, unlike many other AMTs.

Unfortunately, the gearbox is not very smooth in full-auto mode; sadly a state I anticipate my parents to be driving in all the time. So I'm still in a dilemma.

Damn, I'm itching...it's not something I really need right now but damn it's tempting.

How's maintenance btw. I hope Si Khiong Star aren't going to screw you over parts and services. Any ideas where else one can send the car for maintenance and parts and stuff?

Anyway, thanks prozac for the heads up and dealing with my questions.

One more though...what sort of loans/interests can you get for it, since it is a 2005 pre registered car?

Typical maintenance costs RM400-500, every 20,000km. That works out to be just like any other car, just more convenient.

Loan up to 90%, 2.7%

As long as don't change to SilverFag... :shcokedcamo:

LOL...nice one...

I'm still thinking about it, cos its not exactly what I wanted as my next car nor is it something I need at the moment.

Don't want to end up like most women during Mega Sales i.e. buying things that they don't want just because it was on sale. Don't want to have to sell it a year down the road because the depreciation will be scary.

BTW, where's the nearest Si Khiong Star dealership to the Mutiara Damansara area?

How about RM40 million Si Khong Star showroom at Golden Triangle.
