perhaps....in the history...especially chinese one...you can see the things repeated in similar way...a country was once strong..then corruption comes and then either being conquered by the neighbour country or the people rebel and took over the throne....the country which maintain good and fair rules to people will last long as 400 years....the country which have serious corruption usually wont even last for 1 century

people is always a main foundation of the country...a country lost the trust of its people will not survive.....duno our big balls with "dr" tittle aware of this or not....

firstly cossie, thank you for carefully for addressing your thoughts on this issue (AP holders) to individuals post here..

what were the statistics meant to show? recently, the selangor mentri besar used statistics to show that selangor is a developed 'country' and the education standard of selangor is ranked 2nd best in the world.

dont even begin to discuss that !:D another classic case of jumping ze gun:D

looking at the same statistic, is it not apparent that the 'few' cars being imported per year generates much more revenue than the entire sales of cars produced locally? how can this not affect the local car industry?

Lets look at it closely, Would i be wrong to say more then half the revenue is derived from high end marques? where a car is capable of being valued at RM1milllion onwards per car, so to speak.

(hypothetically speaking)
A conservative estimates of average high end marques sold in malaysia (RM1million or so)
250 X 1million = RM250 million!!
One only need to do the math of the actual high end marques ;) ;)

Can i say I only need to sell 1 brabus prepared AMG SL55 = +-38units korean cars??

But the actual sales in in competition with the nationals cars are much lower. By turning around the issue; it would mean cars (directly in competition with the national car) will have to suffer higher APs (if the authorities gets their way and/or by abolishing cars of capacity lower then 2.0). SO, it does mean the man-in-the-street WILL have to fork more when the issues settle down & when the authorities have their way.
So, technically man-in-the-street still gets fu*ked :D

one thing to question is how come thailand has become the favourite place to manufacture and assemble parts for big automotive companies? i wonder if this has anything to do with our great ability to import things rather than practice manufacturing and assembling things locally? remember the saying, "practice makes perfect"? perhaps foreigners are not confident we have the will and are willing to work hard at practicing so they entrust investments in those who do?

precisely! that's why the money spent by those consumers of luxury vehicles or lesser could have been used to purchase a wider range of CKD vehicles which would have been available due to market demand provided the APs did not exist.

i suspect since it is easier to import a vehicle (CBU) rather than to set up a plant for CKD, the government started issuing APs for bumiputras to make a quick buck. if this is correct, it will erode the confidence of foreign automotive companies from setting up their manufacturing base here. many of them do so in the hope that there is also a healthy local demand for their products. due to government policy, it is not confidence inspiring to inject capital into malaysia only to have some well-greased person hand someone a stack of APs to bring in cars that will kill off this venture. furthermore, the number of APs issued are unchecked and can number any amount with no strict rules and guidelines. it seems as if the actual number of APs issued are dependent on the number requested by certain parties.

so if a foreign company were to do an economic feasibility study, they will conclude that:

• we cannot predict the actions of the government or the people in power;
• we can't tell if the local businessman will look towards long term growth or make a quick buck by bringing in cars in an unscruplous manner;
• we don't know what are malaysia's 10-20 year automotive policies;
• if they are willing to use something they term APs, then we should manufacture outside malaysia and have them import it whicle we manufacture from another country with a good automotive policy.

this can still be what the future looks like. just scrap the APs and everything we want to drive is dependent on market demand and must be assembled locally. this will ensure cheaper spare parts as CKD cars include much local content and there are also the gains from the practice of learning how to manufacture different types of parts at different levels of quality for different automotive companies. it is just an expansion of what malaysians are already capable of doing: assembling vehicles.

we would benefit the same way the british and americans have by assembling japanese cars. if the british, americans and japanese have concluded that this is the way to go, then malaysia will not be going backwards by following the examples of economically successful nations.

afterall, what's the purpose to education? i believe it is to learn how it is best to do something. one way to learn is to follow examples of those who made it.

we really cannot afford to have an unchecked outflow of funds with nothing coming in. malaysia will become a very poor nation if this carries on.

it all boils down to the g-man and how they run their country. look at hong kong, they do not produce anything and is required to buy everything and yet they are doing great. economically they are on the rise after being hit extremely hard in 97.

Hongkong depend their econ in 3 major area:

1) Financial sector- Money cannot flow in and out china freely, thats why many foreign company will have their financial head quarter in HK as a monetary transfer terminal for businesses in China. Also the capital from China are also doing their financial activities such as capital raising and investment through HK because HK is a well known recognised finance centre in the region.

2) Trading- Hk no longer have manufacturing, but they are the gateway for China trade. Many trading activities from China is conducting in HK(just as what my current company doing). Current trend is..made in China but export in HK...but sooner or later it will move to Shenzhen...

3) tourism- Main tourist for HK is Chinese from mainland, They spend alot when travelling to HK and it has help the tourism and retails business in HK to grow to boom...The opening of Disney in this Coming Sept will push it to the peak...but it will expect to cool down in 2 years time...

Most of the HK econ are depend to China.....not much from their G....but one good thing for HK is they are still very "democratic" at this moment...the Minister will kena tiu if he/she make crappy policies and the citizen can stop the implementation policies via
court(currently an old lady stopped their G to make their public housing private board listed).....also, when they want to implement any important policy, they will actually do survey and consider the result before they go ahead in the parliament....

one thing is HK ppl dare to speak up for their thoughts...so giving their govt kind of pressure to make things transparent.....even their MTR and KCR train malfunction for minutes will also need to report on TV....and then the authority will need to stand up and explain to the public for the malfucntion....i respect them for that....

after reading thru the above 3 links i can say that i'm "fairly well" pissed but the paragraph below really blows my lid.

At the 55th annual general assembly of the largest political party in Malaysia, the United Malays National Organisation, the deputy chairperson Badruddin Amiruldin cautioned against questioning the Bumiputra's special rights, and was met with approval from the delegates: "Let no one from the other races ever question the rights of Malays on this land. Don’t question the religion because this is my right on this land."

the nerve to call oneself "bumiputra" somemore when even the land does not belong to one race. such arrogance and racism is blasphemy in a multi racial country which is supposedly democratic and living in harmony.
