My check light blinking and I checked with one of the workshop and was told my EGR having a prob ... Can somebody brief whats EGR all about?

Thx in advance

can try search n read about it in the wikipedia......exhaust gas recirculation....

In internal combustion engines, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is a nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions reduction technique used in most petrol/gasoline and diesel engines.

EGR works by recirculating a portion of an engine's exhaust gas back to the engine cylinders. In a gasoline engine, this inert exhaust displaces the amount of combustible matter in the cylinder. This means the heat of combustion is less, and the combustion generates the same pressure against the piston at a lower temperature. In a diesel engine, the exhaust gas replaces some of the excess oxygen in the pre-combustion mixture.

Because NOx formation progresses much faster at high temperatures, EGR reduces the amount of NOx the combustion generates. NOx forms primarily when a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen is subjected to high temperature.

2 way to settle it...
1. change it..
2. rechip ecu which will bypass EGR system..

Thx for the info bro .... I did reset back the ECU and the checklight was not blinking anymore. My question is ..
1. Will my checklight blinking again since I just reset back the ECU?
2. Will it cause any damages to my engine?
3. EGR have any sensor or not? Is it the sensor just after the extractor?

Thx for the info bros ... really help a lot

it will come back sooner or later if it is something wrong with it..
the problem to ur engine would be the A/F would be mess up abit..
H-series got solenoid & valve which is located beside the engine with vaccum hose connected to the engine.. not sure bout other series..
