i would like to know.. more details on this...
...........................

brighten me up ... ppl !!! :D

i'm not that knowledgeable but hopefully i can help a bit. lean mixture means that the ratio of petrol to air is low while rich mixture means the ratio of petrol to air is high. in layman terms, lean means not enuff petrol inside your combustion chamber. if i'm not mistaken a typical car has a petrol to air ratio of 1 to 13.5 or so. that means that for one part of petrol, your mixture should also have 13.5 part of air. anything lower than 13.5, you're rich. higher than 13.5, you're lean.

one thing noticeable when you're running too rich, everytime u step on your throttle, u will notice a puff of black smoke coming out from exhaust. this is typical of turbo cars that normally run slightly richer than our normal cars. besides, richer fuel mixture also means that your engine cooling is slightly better.

hope i'm right and correct me if i'm wrong.

thanks. man ..

so that means... i should always prompt on rich mixture??
izit???
any effect ito da engine if its running rich or lean ..

not much effect but if its running lean, you may feel underpowered maybe. besides, if your run lean, you lose engine cooling efficiency. i don't know why but i've learnt that the more fuel being pumped in the chamber, the cooler your engine is. there's an explanation, but don't ask me.

as for running too rich, yeah you do feel the power but if there's too much incomplete burnt fuel, you're basically wasting money. either that, or you should just go get a flame thrower exhaust for style.

for a normal aspirated engine ... u should not run rich, u must run lean, but not too lean. running rich won't do you any harm though... except that your fuel economical will drop.

on a turbo/supercharge engine, u should never run lean. running lean mixture will give u detonation which is not good for engine. the mixture must ngam-ngam to benefit the current upgrades done, especially when running full boost. slightly richer is to keep the combustion chamber cool a bit from the excess fuel.

waoo .. thanks u to all sifu's../.

im drivin a carbie... basiclly .. do they hav some machinery stuff to tune it.. ??? i wonder??

cost carbie's tunung tend to run after a couple running...

carbie's tuning .. i mean

for carb tuning, they put some sort of small device at the end of your exhaust that reads the a/f ratio
