thanks and regards

ok. any recommendation? if compare Clarion D1 n Alpine 7998 which is better?

thanks

pure deck have different meaning in others i guess, some label pure decks as just the CD reader, no DSP, no EQ, not any xtra stuff, just reading the CD and sending out the information.

In my opinion, pure decks are CD players without internal amplification.

Depends on what u define by better. For comparison's sake, the 7998 is MP3 capable, the D1, instead, is HDCD capable. As for the sound from both, it's different, u've got to listen, to know which one suits u more. U'll have to listen to the players themselve, not just pick and test any Alpine, the 7998 sounds different from the 98xx series.

Pure desk no internal or additional sound amplification or features as Grex had mentioned. It reads directly and source it out directly from what it reads from the cds.

Yeah, it is also true that pure desk head units never come cheap and the spec is much better too, sometimes with high voltage output for the RCAs.

Most will agree that D1 has better SQ and 7998R has better features.

Heh... in fact, if u asked me, i would pick the D1 over the 7998 anyway, i just plain like Clarion's SQ, very neutral. And moreover, HDCD support is kind cool, at least all those HDCD in my collection won't go to waste. :P But then again, it's a hell lot easier to find a used 7998 than a used D1 :(

thanks bro for all the input. will do some homeworks b4 get the deck.

many-many 10q

.. the comparison between pure decks & non-pure decks really makes me puzzled also..
first, is there such thing as 'pure deck' nowadays?.. i think there's really no definite description on pure deck also..
secondly, is pure deck far superior to non-pure decks in terms of SQ, functionality?
finally, IMO the only clear disparity between pure decks and non-pure decks it the huge premium price placed on pure decks..

Nakamichi CD700II<----Good example of a current pure deck, and who dare dispute Nak's SQ quality?

Pure deck --> need to use external amplifier

List of pure desk - i guess, not really sure

1- Eclipse 8061
2- Alpine 7990 F1
3- Alpine 7998
4- Nakamichi MK700 - lense very sensitive
5- Denon - R100 & R10
6- Macintosh 405
7- Panasonic Tube Player
8- Clarion HD-1 & HD-2

for me the sq sound is more warm & detailed, compared to normal hu

Mind if i add to the list

9- Alpine DVI-9990
10- Rockford Fosgate RFX8250/Denon DCT-Z1

woo.. so, we have about 10 pure decks here.. wouldn't it be good to provide some kind of price range 4 each unit.. just an indication of how much it costs in Malaysia? :)

mmm, Pure deck has no processors inside, thus the 7998 is out. The 7990 and 9990 are compatible with external processors though.

Its also the Clarion HX-D1 and the DXZ-9255.. D2 is no more a pure deck.

the RF 8250 is not a Z1, its a Denon A1N, older model than Z1. The Z1 should be lumped with the R1.

Naka is the CD700 model, the CD400 is also a pure deck.

The 7990R itself can run connect direct to amp, the 9990 Can't.You need to hook it up to either the DAI or the PXI.

for what i see on pure deck, they can have built-on processor, but juz w/o built-in amplifier

pure deck advantage:
claimed better SQ, dollar to dollar, they invest only in sound reproduction, and not other features.

disadvantages:
boring nothing to play :D
hard to tune especially the imaging, as there's no TA. damnit i'm still trying to get my imaging right after so long :P
