Pros and cons of engine braking?

You're welcome. Yes, there are times where my clutch release is delayed slightly. I need to work on that timing. Also sometimes when I feel the air condioner compressor kicking in, the revs are sometimes not high enough for a perfect match when I jab the throttle. I switched off the air conditioner when I recorded this video for easier rev matching.

Now, I continuously practice it all the time when I drive. Thanks for your comment and time for watching the video, Tom.

Good call on the delayed release, or slow clutch release when you feel the need.

Next time, you can try blipping the throttle again, that way you will never ever experience jerk when you miss your shift

overall, i think you're quite natural in your driving judging from the video
from now on, i'd recommend to focus on smoothness and please do post more videos from time to time renesis

Seems like you sit too close to the steering/dash, or you're just very tall?

I guess I am considered to be tall? 185cm height or so. Can try adding me at fb.

he very thin, and very tall...

LOL, just from adding me at FB, you can tell a lot.

Need to adapt well to the clutch timing depending on situation.

During my earlier attempts at heel toe, I occasionally blip the throttle too lightly. So I did retry blipping the throttle again.

I was actually worried that I look awkward or not natural in the video because I'm under the realization that I am recording myself. Good to hear that you think I look quite natural. Well, since the basics on how to perform heel toe is already there, I guess focusing on smoothness is the next step to further refine this technique.

It was actually a bit difficult for me to get the right position for the camera in this video. I held my phone by clipping it under the headrest on the passenger seat. Recorded using the front camera of my phone as I can't see the view of the camera if I used the back/main camera.

if anything maybe the upshifts were a bit rushed but other than that, all good from my view

Yeah, the more you do, the more natural it gets
look for a cheap old model gopro if you plan to do more videos in the future

I'm also 6ft tall (183cm) but I think I didn't sit as close as you when I was driving my Lancer CB back then. My knees were no where near as close to the steering as yours.

Hahahaha, I was actually trying to shift quickly worrying that I shifted too slow for this video. I normally shift a bit slower than that.

As the old saying goes, practice makes perfect.

I'll try and check around the price for any old model gopro and see how much they cost. Alternatively, I can try to find some kind of camera stand/tripod like those octopus type to cling on to the seat or something. I have a camera with me.

Is your steering position adjustable in your Lancer? Mine can be adjusted but I already put it to its highest setting.

Bro renesis, may be try adjust seat couple clicks furter.

Actually before this, my seat was set even further in front than it is now. Was driving like that for few years and got used to it. After few months ago when I adjusted the floor carpet, I adjusted the seat a bit backwards and at first I felt not used to it but it made it much easier to perform heel toe than it is before. I guess seating position plays an important role for this. Perhaps I should try adjusting the seat further backwards and see how it goes.

Yes it was adjustable too but cannot remember anymore how high I used back then, surely not the highest I think. The top of the steering is about level or maybe just a bit higher than the top of the dashboard if I try to recall. Oh btw I did change my steering to a slight smaller diameter though, I think 13' Italian made racing style steering (forgot the brand but not Momo). So that also free up more room underneath it. The steering input also became a bit heavier but more stable and quicker response. Still cannot remember anymore if my steering was also telescopic or not, and if so how I set it...

As for the seat position on my Lancer, I think I set it a bit lower (but again not the lowest), and maybe just 1 more click from the furthest setting in terms of distance from the dash.

just shift normally, relaxing...coz not even in racing condition...

like i said many many times, H&T and things like that not neccessarily for fast/race condition....

u can use it while driving casually and smooth....

have u ever heard when passengers who were sitting in your car asking to confirm if your car is automatic while its clearly a manual transmission at the end of the trip?

:smokin: thats shows how smooth and good shift were applied....

Pomen king shift so smoothly hahahha

Different people different seating position. I think if he is comfortable that way, changing might make it worse.....lol

Yes true, just use which ever position one is already comfortable and used to, don't change too drastically as long as it's not too way off the mark.

Maybe is because of your smaller steering?

I din't set my seat so far away from the steering like yours. Still several clicks away from the furthest setting. Maybe that is the reason why your legs are not so near the steering.

Actually can try pushing it further back and see how it goes. If not used to it, adjust back.

I'll slow down my shifts after this.

So far, most of my passengers know that I am driving manual. As for smoothness, I think still not as smooth as auto. Particularly when driving at low speed during first gear when slight changes to the throttle can make the car jerk.

i think its close to impossible to be as smooth as autos in low gears unless you keep playing with the clutch

I am using max, my son who is taller uses the max too but 1 click more slant. Even with that I can feel that I am not in my own position......lol

Not momo, Nardi loh...lol....
stock steering rubbing my thigh, i install aftermarket steering wheel too...italian one i think.
350mm. Just nice.
One thing, cant see signal light and cant see 80-130kph dash meter. :banghead:

I adjust my steering so that I can see the meter completely......lol

to be honest it is possible and need not mess with the clutch,
it's a matter of matching the speed of the car with the timing of the shifts
for example, if you are at a constant speed, the shifting action is more relaxed and gapped.
if you are accelerating, these actions need to speed up to match

No, not Nardi also, something else, I totally forgot already. Got the small horn buttons on the left/right spokes instead of the middle so the middle was just flat with screws around. The 3 spoke was also bright silver mat color similar to Evo 7/8, not black.

That means your steering position is too low la.

Half clutch, half clutch and half clutch movement.

After a while, you can get used to it if you continue driving like that.

As long as the timing between clutch and throttle pedal is good, I believe manual can operate as smoothly as auto. But the control of the throttle pedal must be really good.

Something like this?
