Intercooler,Turbine,BOV,Wastegate

Hi all,
Got some questions that i hope someone can answer :

Car in question : S15 SPec R Silvia

1)When should i change to a bigger intercooler?When i increase my boost or when i change to bigger turbine?How do i know which intercooler is suitable for my modifications ?Are they rated according to size?Since intercoolers are only there to cool incoming pressure from turbine,why do i need to change to new one?Why cant i just use stock one to cool the pressure ?

2)What is BOV for?Why do some people choose not to install a BOV ? If i change to bigger turbine and increase boost,must i change my BOV too ? How would i know which BOV is suitable for me ?

3)How about wastegate?WHen should i change to a bigger wastegate?When i increase boost or change to bigger turbine ?How do i know which size of wastegate i need?How do i choose the suitable wastegate ?

1) Normally after markets intercooler have their own power rating... so, in your case, find that can support 350whp (420 hp at crank!) with minimum pressure drop. You need roughly 22psi/1.5bar pressure boost to squezzed 350whp from your 2L SR20. Its high pressure and a serious power, so u need a performance intercooler.

2) BOV rated by pressure, ask around and buy a good BOV which can hold atleast 22psi/1.5bar at your charged pipe.

3) External wastegate has a spring rate and gate size to considered. If you gonna have high boost set-up with external boost controller, find as low spring rate as you can (7psi/0.5bar if not mistaken). Go as big as you can for gate size (50mm maybe).

Other than that, go to SR20 forum and do a lot of reading.. heh heh and not forgot to GOOGLE it.

1)What happens if i use a 420 HP intercooler when i have only 250 HP?
2)What happens if i use a 1.5 Bar BOV when i only have 0.5 Bar?
3)What happens if i use a low spring rate and 50 MM waste gate when i am using a stock SR20 ?
 
A lot of these mods depends on other mods on the car. Intercooler, turbo, wastegate, blow off are mostly all connected, so they have to match each other... so it kinda depends on what you're expecting out of your mods really.

Do more searches and readings to understand how they function, you'll get most of your answers there.

And i've always told people this... if you're not sure what a certain mod does to the car... then u're most likely to NOT need it.
