Hi Guys.. just wanted to ask...

ANyone has cleaned their MAF before? Any preferred methods?

I did mine with contact cleaner and I find my idling is much smoother and FC seems better.

Other guys have recommended to use Alcohol to do it...

SO any other methods?

use Carburetor/choke cleaner to spray it...beter.....

MAF is Mass Air Flow i guess if not mistaken..it a sensor

MAF is a Mass Air Flow sensor that detects the amount of air that is sucked into your engine.

I was recommended not to use carburettor cleaner as it may be to caustic and damage the sensor there...

so MAF = AFS? AFS = Air Flow Sensor, the little black box that is connected to the air filter with a wire harness socket attached to it. Yeah, i agree, better not to use carburetor cleaner. What i did to clean it was to use cotton buds and dipping it in cleaning alcohol and twirling in into the holes in the AFS one by one... kinda time consuming coz got so many holes (about 100 plus..??)... ;)

do u mean cleaning de TB (throttle body) ???

if yes.. normally pl just remove the whole TB unit.. then use thinner to clean it... with the help of a toothbrush n cloth...

the proton MAF is like a box rite? inside this box is the aluminium honeycomb filter-like thingy...this is just to straighten air flow and is not the sensor itself...the sensor itself is like a small electronic component behind/after the honeycomb...

you can clean the honey comb, but be careful not to bend/crumple it...it has to be straight to straighten the airflow that is flowing past the sensor...

clean the little electronic component, the sensor itself, also...use video head cleaner spray...spray from front and back, and let it dry off...it is adviced not to scrub/rub/wipe it (unless extremely dirty with stubborn deposits sticking). also do not use strong solvents...carb cleaner maybe be too strong...

use video head cleaner spray...

one more thing...don;t bother running the car without the honeycomb thingy...it messes up everything. it has to be in there...a must to have it to straighten the air flow.
