just come out from TC for 80k service.

they recommended me for the following service and the price quote:

1. Change the aircond belt, flush power steering , replace air filter, service brake - rm400
2. to replace flywheel oilseal as they detect a bit of oil stain at the gearbox - rm800

Guys, why do we need to flush the power steering?

if we do not replace the oil seal, what will actually happen? i think the price is too expensive and they need to remove the gearbox just to change the seal. I am worried the side effect for the car if they did not fix back the gearbox properly....

Please advise, thanks.

In theory the power steering fluid will lose its properties over a period of time hence will affect the peformance of the steering. All the cars I've owned (with power steering) before never once have I flush the p/steering . They never give any problem at all.Flywheel oil seal will cost you less than rm100-00 , the rest would be the cost of w/ship. You do the math.I.ve had the similiar leakage problem for over 3 years, but my gearbox still changes very smoothly. Most importantly to check the atf every 2 - 3 weeks to ensure is enough , Hey we still need to do that whether its leking or not right?Chopshop guys I know said that the A32 g/box are bulletproof as they have almost never sold any automatic trans over few years but they sell other autos boxes like hot cakes. so don't worry.

the flywheel oil seal its cheap, the labor its the expensive, cause it need to take out the g.box, and also the one section of the engine (forgot the name), its dam hard todo the job. If you doing it, must well change all the oil seal. I did mine last year when i change to another engine.

I also flush power steering oil every 20kkm using normal Dextron III. not actually flush, i just drain and refill back.
This will reduce the chance of power steering leak due to dirt in the oil. I did this in my previous car also, and when i sold the car after clocking 200kkm not a single oil leak in the engine bay

Also flush radiator coolant. I do it every 20-30kkm, using Nissan coolant.

thanks for the feedback.

What type of oil should we used for the gearbox and the power steering?

weikee... u drain the power steering oil uself? how to do that?

nissan matic-d its the prefer for fatty. you need 4L +- 0.5 for normal oil change. If you change the atf filter, you need minimal 5L, and if you take the g.box out you need 8L

for power steering oil, The DOE will not like to hear this.... i plug out the hose, let the oil drain, put it back, pour the new oil in, run the engine for 2 mins, do this again and again for 3 round. hehe... on the open area where its only sand /grass... don't do it on the road cause you will cause accident because of the oil.... I normally put some old news paper on the bottom, and throw it after its done.
