squealing brakes

chocolatesttarfish:
sorry for didn't explain clearly on the previous post...my eng not really well...

not the rotor surface or the brake pad friction surface...just apply the grease at the brake pad backing plate surface where the anti-squeal shim will be attach...but applying grease just a temporary solution, the squealing sound might be come back again...anyway,try to replace the anti-squeal shim 1st...sometimes,the squealing sound might cause by the brake pad too...the friction compound doesn't mix well enough...

oh ya,regarding the disc rotor surface cleaning...can use some thinner to wipe the surface of the disc rotor...^^

don't worry with the eng bro..i'm not from UK as well

anyway tqvm..will try the anti squeal pads 1st..i don't mind changing the asp if the sound comes back..as long as it doesn't cost me an arm and leg

This is the thing I use to spray on the deteriorated anti-squeal shim. I got it off a hardware shop in centerpoint BU. A reputable hardware shop should carry it. There is 2 pieces of metal behind the pads. One is the shim, the other is like a backing plate. Just spray the shims a layer or two. That should stop the B**ch from squealing..hehe. Oh, do remember to clean the shims before spraying.

P/S : I also used this urethane to coat (3 layers) my coilpacks to cover any hairline cracks preventing any misfiring :)

A little off topic but may interest some. This would be my handsomely coated coilpacks :)

nice to share  thanks bro

I believe I paid about RM35 for it. Apparently CRC stuff is pricey coz it's imported.. tsk tsk.

One note though, it smells when it is freshly sprayed. Smell goes away when it is dried.

My brakes only squeal at low speeds, nearly stop speeds...anyway I'll just give it a try and see the outcome of it first

Mine (used to) squeal when the car is almost at a stop. e.g. at traffic lights.

mine is squealing like a train at traffic lights and speed bumps...hope this urethane stuff can solve it

frootloops,

please update to use if you tried to coat and what is the outcome...
i might do it as well... my ride squealing when braking at low speed...

the mech told me that is because i use other brand/aftermarket not use original Brembo for the brake pad...:hmmmm::confused:
i used brand: DON (made in UK written on the box - provided by the dealer).

Roger that pangyau...will let u know the outcome once I've tried...hope it works

If that doesn't work, use silicon.. The ones construction workers use to seal stuff like the edge of basins.. Transparent ones. About RM7 a tube. You would to buy the gun too for about RM5.

Silicon can apply thicker but it is damn hard to get a uniform spread on the shims. Plus being thicker also creates a spongy feel to the brakes which I didn't like.

If you going to try the urethane, Apply 2 - 3 layers to be on the safe side. Spray layers by layers but letting each layer properly dried first :)
I did only 2 layers on mine and it shut up the brakes the same effect as the silicon but without spongy feel.

Innocente, great write up on the experiment. You sure have all the time and patience to try all this. Time to make your ride go faster since your fuel pump has enough juice...woohoo.

Frontloops: hope you get your pads check what spec is it first, then you move on from there...

How do I check the specs? I'm afraid that the writing on the back of the pads are gone

I had to do it cause the squeal would make dogs go deaf and perhaps crack glasses.

yep nice to share..this can avoid others from spending their money on unnecessary buys..and to get con by mechanics..

Re: squeling brakes

i skimmed all my 4 rotors for RM200 total..[/QUOTE]

Where did u get it skimmed for rm200 all 4 rotors? Few shops quoting rm80-90 per piece

my car was in bintulu/sarawak at that time  but it was a steel factory..the price will be higher if u send to a car workshop that owns a skimming machine around here..
