On road tuning vs dyno tuning

Dyno is a great tool to tune a car in a controlled and safe environment. It is good for full load and constant speed load tune. Dyno is a best used to tune ignition timing as well.

From my observation most famous tuners will start on a dyno and eventually going on-road or the tracks to fine tune throttle responds, quick gear up and down shifts plus other factors which dyno can't mimic. To me, it all depends on the car owner on what he/she wants out from the tune. Some like to save more fuel while others want the most hp and torque.

Conclusion:
Use both methods of tuning to gain the best overall tune for your application.

For me both dyno & on road r important, spec most of us still want to drive the car on street.

Sorry to bring this back :adore:
Im thinkin of tuning my car soon so what I can conclude from the discussion/debate here is that we need both dyno & road tune to get the best result right? So road tune 1st then dyno, correct? or is it the other way around?

I think should be the other way round. You can dyno to get the power you desire, but you must test it on the road to make sure its reliable. Road conditions are usually more harsh compared to in a workshop. Much higher air temp due to heat from the sun, hard acceleration, go WOT for long periods of time (eg. WOT on NSHW).

Hi guys,
I required an assistance to do on road dyno due to no dyno machine at my place.
Anybody could list what & how to do road dyno, I probably tuning the ride by myself.
Please guide.

Had my car tuned on the dyno and road after changing to 2.7" exhaust 3 months ago. Only showed 3whp increase on the dyno since the weather was really hot on that day. Felt a lot of difference after road-tuning on MEX Highway and KL traffic.

dynojet? dat explains y u felt the engine is better after on the road tuning

So which is the best anyway? Road tune first then dyno? Or Dyno first then road tune?

like extremelo mentioned. It depends on what dynamometer ur car is tuned with. If dynoed on Chassis Dyno/Load Dyno(Dyno Dynamics, Mustang Dyno), the wheels have retarder that produces load onto your wheels just like on the road... The load can even change. Higher load = uphill, lower load = flat road.

Whereas Inertia Dyno(Dynojet, Dastek Dyno) wheels are free running wheels. So, on the real loaded scenario, the AFR will be slightly different.

Cool! Thanks for the good explanation :D What are some of the shops that use the Chassis Dyno/Load Dyno(Dyno Dynamics, Mustang Dyno)?

There could be more... Just not sure...
