Kia Specktra 1.6 Novus

spectra.. if u got 72k for a spectra i think better go for any old cars like a31 and use those extra cash to mod it and refurnish it.. at least that will what i do if i have those money and if i wanna get a car .. my mom was using spectra, when she bought it that time the car price is 79k wan .. like ppl said in here, power is definately no no, in the aspect of pick up acceleration, damn my 1.3 wira can even chase it & cornering .. lagi la teruk, body roll like mad bcos the car body heavy like hell. FC is bad .. very bad ... especially when u buy the car brand new that time .. from ampang to taman tun and back to ampang, half tank gone... mad FC nowadays its not that bad already since its 32k mileage now already.. and the parts of the car indeed its expensive, careful of da headlight .. the crystal headlights will gonna cost u a bomb .. last time mom bought that car without bodykit .. masuk daichi bodykit which novus spectra have now there goes another 1.4k.. maybe u wanna change the rims if u wanna go for look since even new wira nowadays uses a 16" rims , spectra such a huge car use 15" , somehow for me it looks weird..

itz not a performance car... itz just a family car... with an added sporty looks.. thatz all. By the way.. plus side of it... itz comfy.

thanks everybody for the comments. i appreciate it very much..

now i should consider other cars...

anybody knows for a year 2003 toyota vios how much should i pay for it?

and the spec for vios and gen 2 is look like same...well dont shoot me cause i am no car expert...i know we cant; compare proton gen 2 and vios but i am just curios.. the price is 80k(vios) vs 61k (gen2)

Hi Jason, you can't afford a new Vios? I'm sure the sales person can dig up a good deal for you wot. I'm not a huge fan of 2nd hand cars unless you're looking for modding project car la.

Gen 2 is a campro engine and has a majority of plastic-y interior stuff. The problems with this car is abundant, like the alarm going off if car is in a hot area, the windows not working very well, the door handle colour peeling off, backside too high so parking can be a pain, and many many more. On the plus side it's relatively light, nice chairs, clean interior look and of course, it's a 1.6. If you decide to go for a Gen 2, DO NOT buy the automatic version. Its gearbox is more or less if not the same as the Wira, ie-3 gear gearbox. It's heavy on petrol and prone to problems. Get a manual, more picky upper and better FC. Personally I'd go for teh 1st generation Wira SE manual and do it up. It's cheaper and it looks nicer :D

Vios has its own fair share of problems but they are all minor. VVTI engine and it's a light body car. Of course, it's a Toyota. Build quality is definitely there in comparison. It's only auto but heck it's a good car in general. No idea its 2nd hand value tho.. you notice that not many people put their VIOS up for sale? Hehehe.. nuff said.

hmm i query bout vios second hand because second hand car wont depreciate much...new car will depreciate a lot. hehehe i try to minimise the lost of $$$ due to depreciation....

But you'll be owning a 3-rd hand car. Aiya.. buy car don't bother with depreciation la, cuz cars are a liability.. won't earn you money. So why bother? Just get one that won't give you more headaches - repairs/leaks/squeeks/etc. Best thing about new is the car has WARRANTY. :D

blacksamurai : Yeah.. I heard that too. Alternator not big enuff to charge the battery. But apparently the newer models don't have this problem anymore.

toyota car the suspension system...chasis...very good

4 xample...compare a 92 seg 2 new waja..i think the old seg is more comfy n the suspension system not making much noise...

my wira...got a lot of 'mice'...klik klik klack klack all the time...sigh...

if ur budget is at 60K this is ur option.

new
1. gen2 1.6M (Highline version with ABS and twin airbag)
2. Waja 1.6M
3. Hyundai Accent RX-S (ha ha ha juz kidding)
4. Inokom Matrix (almost 70K)

its difficult to get 2nd hand N16 Sentra or ZZE122 Corolla Altis even a 4 years old example.

why dont u wait for new satria? or perodua MYVI? about 55K for 1.3 version, power to weight ratio must be good and definitely bigger than kelisa as sirion and charade is exactly in the same category.

there will be a new model from Naza in October. its only a 1.2 sedan but newly design by Naza and not underlicenced product by Kia. They started this project about 2 years ago with a group engineers ex proton/perodua staff.

btw, gen2 automatic is a 4 speeder(forward) and not 3. 5 speed if include reverse.

I bet RM100,000 on this.

waiting for new car from proton is definitely out from my wish list...most probably i will go for vios or city

Good luck on your purchase dude :D City ain't half bad but the VTEC model seems suspicious.. cuz the VTEC model doesn't seem to act like a VTEC. Ask Joeker about this.. he's analysed the whole thing and everything seemed odd.

is it possible becoz the vtec is not matched to a manual tranny izso? i wonder why...

Zan, I've no idea! I don't understand the mechanics of VTECH, but sometime ago Joeker posted his findings on the VTEC City after it got launched. He raised quite a few eye-brows with his post and there was a lot of discussion by it.

As for manual tranny, you can't really use that as comparison cuz the Civic 2.0 i-VTEC has auto as well and I got reports of the beautiful VTEC sound kicking in after high revving. :D Incidentally, my VTEC City friend has been bitching about the fact that he can't get his VTEC to kick in and really regrets trading in his old EG. Stupid fella :D

huh?? u mean honda city vtec got low power cause the vtech does not kick in??? then might as well buy th idsi model..

is it becoz it's a diff kinda vtec mechanism?
i've read sumwhere that there's a few kind of vtec. there's the high performance one and some other fuel-efficient ones..

Izzo, i'd like to read on the thread joeker posted..
any idea?
thanks

In all honesty I've no idea if that thread still around. Cuz it was around when I was a newbie to ZTH.. and I'm no longer a newbie (look at my posting number) hehehe

HI

I am planning to get this car. Any comments on the spare parts, maintenance, performance, second hand value?

Any comments is welcome either pro or con.!!!

Regards

hi jason.......my encounter with spektra....mine is 4 mts old wira 1.5 manual....going from ipoh to seremban in highway...spektra tailgating me...im already 160km/h i step aside & spektra overtook me.....then i WANTED to tailgate him & make him eat my dust....but sorry bro...i was wrong !!!!! i did the maximum on my car & even up to KL i could not go near his ass !!!! of course he knew i was trying to catch up.....no way i could go near.....i agree that pick up wise the spektra may not perform as its heavy but with the right guy behind an auto trans...he can kick a storm....my uncle has one...so far no problems , he said petrol consumption is slightly better than his previous car (wira 1.5 auto) , i have sat in his car & its very comfy......mayb setback is 2nd hand value is not good at all......

Simon, wah.. first positive remark for the day. Did you ask you uncle how much he spends on servicing (normal) his car and how much to change an air filter?

Btw, tailgating a high speed moving car in your wira is bad practise cuz if he jam brakes, you're the one who'll suffer cuz I doubt your stock brakes will be able to do anything about 160km/h. Spectra has ABS if I recall.

And no way in hell can a 1.6 spectra have better FC than a wira 1.5.. either ur uncle's 1.5 auto wasn't properly maintained or had mods on it. Cuz my stock Wira 1.5 auto SE can outlast my cousins stock spectra anyday. Before his engine overhaul and after his engine overhaul.

I don't deny the spectra is comfy tho.

nope i did not check the cost of spare parts...though i think it could be expensive than proton's.....what i was trying to say was the spektra is powerful in the highway & not a kura kura. spektra is 4 speed auto compared to wira's 3 speed auto.....so definitely it would have better FC in the long run.........my uncles wira was also stock.
