Improving NVH for an old AE101

My you guys are an active bunch.. half a day and page 2 already! What I heard from my mechanic, he says Toyota's cannot change bushes, as thier bushes comes with the whole set of whatever it is attached to. Its generally not recommended cause its not meant to be changed. True? He might pulling my legs. If this is possible, it might be good, as it will "tighten" up your car when going over bumps.

Engine mounting should be still doing fine. Not much rattle during idle.

When you mention Rubber lining, you meant the door frame rubber?
Those are bloody expensive.. changing ori Toyota rubber will cost slightly above 1000. Any better alternative?

I considered Sound Proof. Ordered a few pieces from my local shop. waiting for stock to arrive.

Autofoam... Penang nobody doing >.quote]

no such thing as bushes cannot change. if that is the case why do spare part shops stock them? and why do aftermarket brands supply them? some items you have to buy in a pair, they don't sell 1 piece. for certain assemblies like the superstrut system you have to change a complete set of bushes consisting of like 6-8 pcs if not wrong. you can check with khwong regarding this. if budget permits better to change complete set. this way you can monitor and see which bushes wear faster than the others. that way you can prepare yourself with spares. if you google i think you can find a PDF manual showing you all the rubber bushes that you need for your car along with the part number. will make it easier for you when ordering from your spare parts supplier.

yes door frame rubber. the rubber lining that holds your windows and also the rubber lining that line the door. these deteriorate over time. thus allowing air to seep through, thus causing the humming sound during high speeds and seepage of sound into the cabin (like motorbike pass you, you can hear damn loud, as opposed to when you sit in other cars). as scott said, you can buy from halfcut. if you got extra budget, just buy 4 doors. that way you can have a set of spares for windows / door lining / lock switch / power window motor. if you dowan to keep as spare can sell in the forums. sure got other members looking for small small things like those.

Yes! my rubber linings holding the window is so hard, its not even funny.
It flakes every time i touch it. so it kinda gets thinner every time i wipe my car. :bawling:

hehehe.. then u know what to do liao lor... go find at chopshop.. much cheaper than getting the new one.. plus u can choose for good condition one... i might be goin to find some door rubber n window glass.. if found i pm u lah..

Sure mate. Thanks!

What about changing rubber bushes? Any particular brands to go for?
Is rubber better or PU bushes (widely sold nowadays).

And any good mechanics you guys can recommend around the island?

Currently I go around Pekaka area for 1 mechanic, but i find he's not really knowledgeable on AE101's...

yup.. i also thinking to replace all bush on my rear suspension.. got many ngrk ngrok sound come out oledi...

now is normal black color rubber bush Vs PU ( blue color)... which 1 better.. any 1 try be4 ?

PU comes in various colours. usually certain colours are specific to certain manufacturers (blue - superpro / yellow - whiteline). wouldn't suggest if you're going for comfort. more of a performance thing. they last WAY longer and self lubricate. when fitted to the front joints and arms, you'll get much better feedback and response from the steering. will improve handling as a whole.

give and take la when it comes to performance stuff. like how when you rose-joint/pillow ball all the suspension links. you'll get better handling/feedback/etc, but at the same time you'll get a whole lotta clanking and your ride will be harsher. and also when exposed to the elements, the rose joints won't last as dirt and sand will get stuck to them. eventually they'll either become very stiff or seize all together. so will need to be constantly replaced. which will cost you.
