Hi All,

Need some friendly expert advise here. I own a 99 putra auto, and recently, when i slow down at traffic lights, the timing goes almost to 0 rpm, well almost. Then today at the toll booth, the engine just died on me. I've done the timing a few times, and everytime it leaves the workshop it's fine about 800-900 rpm when idling, but after 1 or two days it goes lower and hence in 'D' the engine vibrates and the timing seems to be around the 600rpm mark. Any advice on this?

Cheers, and thanks in advance

my old 1.6XLi had the same problem, can't recall what I changed last time. If you stay near segambut, I recomend you the workshop which solve this problem for me.

try these steps:-

1. flush ur gear box oil
2. clean ur throttle body
3. do a ECU reset by disconnecting the batteries for 5 mins before re-connecting

I would say cleaning the throttle body is the most effective, did it a few times for my 97 putra n engine running real smooth at idle...

yup first thing is to clean the throttle body.
if cannot, then might be the idling valve spoil, or the TPS spoil

Thanks all. I recently just did a massive service where I changed all the oils, as this is a 2nd hand car I bought recently. Will try to clean the throttle body and reset the ECU and see if the problem remains.

do the ECU wan... it's really simple and fast... just disconnected the terminal at the battery for 5 mins and it would reset the ECU.

Check the sensor near the throttle body, and open the fuse box (on the left) and to make sure not even one are loose.
