I always ask my son to carry the laptop along. Not to take any chances.....
What I understand is, the battery that operates the clock is very low powered, and plus the metal shield of the boot that small battery is not detectable. However, it's good advice to take the laptop with us. Thieves will target our car's boot and glove compartment as most of us store stuff inside there.
