The most important thing is to look out for tampered mileage.. mebbe experts here can help out.. check for accidents (look insided the engine compartment & boot - look for dents).. check the service records..

1. Agreement letter between you and the dealer, a photocopy of the original grant and receipt (downpayment)

2. Transfer fee, Inspection fee (Puspakom), insurance & roadtax might need to be renewed.

sorry for my ignorance

what sort or agreement letter need to sign?

how much will be the transfer fee and puspakom inspection fee?

its impossible to check wether the milege has been tampered with, thats why u buy from a TRUSTED seller or dealer. eg Subaru's for example..just need to buy a new speedometer and fit it in..taddaa!..new milege...

u need to check if the original loan has been settled and that no money is owed to finance

if you are buying a imported car..MAKE SURE u get a copy of the K1 and AP for the car, other wise damn headahe when you want to sell it off later

if you are buying tru finance..your runner can kau tim all the documents for you,if cash..then make sure u get the registration Doc b4 handing over a bank draft

like beatnik said, very important ot look for accident damage...check the panel gaps, are they the same size? look for difference in paint..is hte bumper and body same shade?jack the car up..check for welding on the chassis

My best advice i think go check da car in PUSPAKOM,
rm40 - 10 points check.
So dat they can really check for da status of da car n also they will advice if any parts that need to change.
The will check the registration of da car as well to prevent from "kereta potong".
Safe time and safe money for the future.

but.. if somethings amiss with the car i.e. potong kereta, won't they sita the car immediately? what happens to us then.. car already bought.. any protection for the buyer..?

thats why u check BEFORE handing over the money

yaa it is not possible to check whether the mileage has been tampered or not.. but you can tell by comparing the car's condition, year registered, previous owner and the mileage.. if the car's condition very teruk, yet the mileage is very low then it is possible that the mileage has been tampered, or the owner changed the meter. that's why we need to check the service records. look at the last service history and you can judge the how far the car has been travelled since last service. :)

hmm...urgent question...

if i'm buying with cash...i hand the money over AFTER the registration's been transferred to my name rite?
