hi guys,

Would like to know which MOTUL oil is suitable for evo engine, gear, ayc, acd, transfer case, differential n watever oil hv to change?

also can you pls note the quantity is needed for each change?

anyone has experience on motul oil.. mind to share, thanks.. :_:

Engine:
300V Chrono 10W-40
300V Power 5W-40
Handbook says 4.5L, but you'll normally need just 4L. Manual actually recommends a 10W-30, but avoid that if you track your car. If it's just occasional hard driving 10W-30 or any of the above oils are fine. Avoid crazy viscosities like 10W-60.

Transmission:
Gear 300
Approx 2.3L
Though the Gear 300 CAN be used in the centre and rear differentials, I wouldn't recommend it. Try and use application specific oils and avoid general purpose GL4/GL5 types.

Centre and Rear Differential:
0.4L Centre / 0.7L Rear.
You can use Motul Gear Comp (FF). Is GL5 rated and has the proper LSD modifiers for use in the differentials.
Alternately, try using RedLine Lightweight or Heavyweight Shockproof for your Centre Differential, together with RedLine 75W-90 GL5 for the Rear. These are more focused oils, and are also ester-based just like Motul.

AYC:
0.8L
Stick to ATF SPIII for the AYC clutch bath. ATF SPIII is not the same as Dexron Mercon so I don't recommend anything that doesn't match it. Besides, you have to drain your AYC oil at every service so you don't need killer quality oil. For the AYC hydraulics, ATF SPIII will do just fine.

Motul engine oils are some of the best you can buy. Very expensive but also very impressive. The Power Racing 5W-30 was the one oil I ever used that made the car feel clearly more powerful. That said, Motul oils are very performance oriented; if you want something that'll give you more protection but not the same level of performance, try Royal Purple engine oils.

Also don't forget to flush/drain your radiator and to add a bottle of Redline Water Wetter in there just for peace of mind.

You can also use Motul's RBF600 for your brake and clutch lines, but it is very expensive and doesn't last longer than 6 months or so before losing efficiency.

both of my cars using motul since few years ago...for my evo was using 10-40, after spenag run the idling oil pressure was pretty low, so now change to 15-50 competition, coming speang run will see how it perform. and my wiralution evo engine using 15-50 competition, no problem at all with forged piston. :)..

Yes, cyilaw, I agree with you completely. Definitely move to a heavier weight oil if the car is tracked, even if you only do it occassionally.

I suspect that the oil was probably thinning out from both the temperature and fuel dilution, leading to the drop in your oil pressure. An EVO going full throttle is like driving around with a leaking fuel tank!

it depands on ur moddification too...for me ill say gear compatition 75W140 for ur transmission, centre n rear differential..n atf-1a for AYC...bout the engine oil..i cant say anything cos i donno which model of evo is urs...if u really interested in trying motul oil u can giv me a call?den i can guide u to workshops in PJ area... =) 0163850992 thx.

cannonfodder,

That's good info ! I also dunno much about gear oil...agak2 la. hehe..

Have not heard from you for quitesometime..when u want to join our TT ? I always sms you la. no replies...

This FRI night speedruns convoy u joining ?

Haha! Yeah, I'm kind of an oil geek, since it's the only thing I can afford to change on my EVO on a regular basis!

[OT] Yup, will be joining you guys for TT tonite, but won't be going for the speedrun cos not driving my car and have to meet another bunch of guys after that [OT]

Gear Competition is GL5-rated, while the EVO's transmission requires GL4. The sulphur additives in GL5 fluids corrode the synchros on GL4 trannies and can lead to accelerated wear. The high viscosity of Gear Competition will also lead to notchy shifts, which worsens the already poor shift quality of the W5M51. Therefore, use Gear Competition only in the differentials and not in the gearbox.

ATF-1A meets Dexron III requirements but is not ATF SPIII-compliant; DIII and SPIII specifications are dissimilar. So, again, difficult to recommend this for AYC fluid replacement. When you know how Mitsubishi AT systems tend to die when filled with DIII, it's an unnecessary risk to run DIII in the AYC clutch bath just to so you can use synthetic.

Hi guys (digging out the old thread).

I need an advice ti choose right viscosity for my gearbox.
At the moment, some suggest to use:

1. Motul Gear Competition 75W-140 (GL5) or
2. Motul Gear Box 80W-90 (GL4 & GL5 compatible).

Your advise & opinion very much appreciated.
Purposely for daily driving + long distance + once awhile joining autocross (probably).

After reading all the thread + "cikgu2" around me, make me more confuse.
Please share what type/viscosity/grade you use on your ride.

Well for me since I drive a GTA, here are the oils that I use:

Engine: Torco SR1 10W40(sometimes switch to Motul 6100 15W50 for tracking)
Gearbox: Torco HiVis ATF(If manual my mech recommends Motul 90PA)
Centre and rear diff: Motul 90PA
AYC: Mitsubishi AYC oil

Too many suggestion about this matter.
I tried to find manual from EVO handbook.
But no information regarding this matter.

At least could be use as a guide line for new owner like me.

I've seen it before bro and if I'm not mistaken the manual says:

Engine: Full synthetic 10W30
Gearbox: 80W90
Centre diff and rear diff: 90 weight LSD oil
AYC: SPIII atf

Just my 10 cents :-)

egiewan,

Thanks for the responds.
I still search the Manual or Hard Copy from Mitsubishi itself (maybe you can help)
Compiling entire data sheet very much useful to me.

In here the mechanic seems don't care much about our ride (if you small peanut only).
Whatever they (mechanic) pour in, need to be check/monitor.

Any idea what will happened if we use different then you quoted?

Engine: Base on your engine performance the more power ticker oil will be needed.
Gearbox: Gear Competition 75W-140
Centre diff and rear diff: Motyl Gear 75W-90 (Center) & Gear Competition 75W-140 (Rear)
AYC: ATF-1A

Mitsubishi products seem to be impossible to source in KK. My option is the MOTUL

Will look around for you...want me to post to you? Well here in KL MOST mechs will ask me to put in thicker oils to suit our hot climate so to say. Let's do one by one:

Engine: Mitsu recommends 10W30...nothing wrong going thicker but too thick will make the engine feel sluggish. My way is, use the thinnest oil possible(10W30) without having problems with severe oil evaporation. Stop at the viscosity where the oil level is stable till the next OCI.
Gearbox: Best to stick to 90 weight coz if you go more, shifting will be quite heavy. A few friend of mine heavily track their evo's with Motul 90PA. Nothing wrong with the GB till now. Nothing wrong using heavier oils since it offers 'more' protection if you insist on using 75W140.
Diff: Same case with the GB, thinner oils will make the car feel lighter to move. But I'm sure people will say it makes no difference but trust me...there is ;-)
AYC: Mitsu insist on using SPIII fluid for AYC and I heard that if you don't, it will cause premature wear and tear to the system. ATF-1A is only DexronIII. Best to get it changed bro.

Again, I might be wrong...but I always follow manufacturer recommendations. They are the engineers and they designed the mechanicals. Therefore it's the best ;-)

Hi guys,

Hope this might help us as a guideline to choose correct viscosity.
