Hi guys,

I bet y'all know the MUT, a bulky hand device that so-called tuners connected via a connector to ECU and was used to 'tune' engines (with stock standard ECUs, especially local cars).

They'll charge RM60 for the 'tuning'.

I don't know much about this thingy, but from what I saw, the 'tuning' is no better than resetting the ECU to factory settings.

Like loading default configuration to our PCs' BIOS.

If that's the case, heck, it can be done by just disconnecting the battery. It'll reset the ECU just as well. And that's free.

Can somebody shed some light here? I know there are tuners in this forum...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the MUT also check your engine for any problems or error codes/signals. It's also a diagnostic device.

The MUT cost a lot of money so, naturally, any one would charge a nominal sum to diagnose the engine and ECU.

"Don't fix it if it ain't broken"

WHy on earth would you want to mess with the ECU and MUT if theres nothing wrong with the engine?

hi guys, this is just my 2cents

1. the MUT doesn't adjust the ECU, it only displays the values that the sensor sends to the ECU.
2. the mechanic can then adjust things like the fuel mixture to correct specs. 3.it will tell you what errors your ecu has, if any, allowing you to take corrective measures
4. i only pay bout 30 each time i MUT my Ecu. when my mech does it, he'll plug it in, check the values, adjust the settings as necessary

Pffft. Unique service center in DJ charges RM200 for ecu reset and 'tuning'.

ermmm work at cars shop b4 and saw it b4 too, i have being told by the boss that the thing can adjust the rpm when idle, even its 100rpm also can, and yeah its used to check the parts is broke or not ( even bulbs, but for advance cars like Merc la )

eon service centre in the heart of sunway is charging RM 80 for throttle body cleaning and MUT-ing.

jinkl,
care to point out what's needed to make an MUT? :D

the place i work got MUT, PDT and bla bla..
MUT actually can done alot of thing, it can adjusting throttle sensor valve idling speed, reading error code from ecu, reading auto gear box sensor/pressure.
it also can adjusting air con idle up valve too..
normally when any sensor faulty then after reparing , u have to use MUT , PDT to tell the ecu that error had been solve and restudy the new setting. But some mech just unplug the batt to let ecu lost all the error memory, ecu will read all the sensor back after power is plug back.
any way always take note tht Waja ecu some time will forgot the throttle sensor step and cant idle after batt power lost. u need MUT to set it back

now proton had release another software update for PDT to adjust ignition timing.

does mmcd work for mmc's wira?
the diagnostic link connectors (DLCs) is OBD-II compitable though.

where is the place....?
if Rm 30 i want laaa

my steering used to vibrate when idling.. after ECU tuning.. it get lesser and engine feels good... my mech will connect it to my car.. push here and there.. and take my car for a ride with the MUT connected and continue tuning...

hmmp i using carb car...so no ecu...wonder how it performed...
tried driving my friends car...
burned his chip( i wonder how) by just driving...
