This is another aspect, that might have nothing to do with the synchro at all.
I just force the shift usually if I made a mistake (crunk' sound), but when I don't make a mistake I find that it clicks in place just fine. It's something to do with the fact that I lift off my foot off the clutch too fast, while the shift 'didn't actually happen' yet. That's why shifting 'normally' works fine.
I can even force a clutch-less shift nowdays, but still sometimes can get the dreaded 'crunk' sound. (this wears out the synchros, so don't do this unless there's already a spare gearbox ready)
If synchro really konk, the gear will jump out of the gear, and even normal driving it will be difficult to shift.
