zan, you have a point.

Nevertheless, price bracket matters more to Malaysian than the actual class of the vehicle ie. the Myvi being compared to the Savvy although they are in different class because they are priced similarly. Therefore, ultimately, buyers would look at the price tag and compare cars of similar value. The Sorento has a bigger engine but when has having a bigger engine than 2.0 litres be popular with Malaysian buyers.

Now that it is cheaper, it would become another alternative to CRV and X-Trail buyers to think about but it wouldn't affect the Fortuner too much. UMW were expecting to sell the Fortuner in small numbers. They rack in the numbers through the Innova and Hilux which are based on the same platform.

Then there is the question of build quality, judging from a recent quality survey, Naza (Kia) isn't doing so well in that department. And again, it is Korean which isn't the best place to start with in terms of quality. Maybe it just me. They are improving and I'm sure one day they will catch up with the Japs, but I don't think it will be too soon.

true, true.

but in my actual life, any cars above 50K is out of reach for me...so let me dream a bit ok? cheers...

BEAUTIFUL !

Well price wise the Sorento is a much much better deal... compared to the Fortuner diesel which is pretty underpowered next to the Sorento.... But if U want style and reliability and reputation it will be the Fortuner....

But if i'm paying my own monety it has to be the Sorento....

both has its appreal and plus points.. but a Kia is still a Kia.. hence replacement parts could be pricey and won't command a good re-sale value in comparison to a Toyota..

the innova and hilux costs rm90k, while the fortuner costs rm170k.
all 3 are the same underneath, why the huge gap in price ?
i think its because toyota is targeting ppl who dream of a harrier but cant afford it

the sorento looks solid and feels it whilst the toyota "looks" solid but really isn't. i'm typical oldtimer when buying cars. will walk around knock fender, door, roof to see how thick the metal is. Not a big Korean car fan but my vote goes for Sorento.

I've driven both. Sorento is excellent. Sales figures for March 06 tells you the story. People who have driven Fortuner have given it the thumbs down as it feels so 'cheap' - pickup truck with full body. :( The tyres are 'General Grabber' - no UTQG markings, country of origin, etc.!).

Sorento has tons of features. Build quality is EXCELLENT. No gaps between side cladding to body (checked out 4 different units), but Fortuner needs rubber liner to do the same job. Cowl top (plastic behind wiper arms) to glass - no gap! Inside, door panels fit flush to inner doors. Leather seats well done. Dashboard solid. No gaps.

No wonder Sorento is a best seller with 260 units, vs only 119 for Fortuner. Fortuner peaked quickly and dropped quickly too as word of mouth went out.

nice one ..
the sorento is quite hightech ... the gearbox is developed by porsche ... nice !

forgot somthing, come to bend or curve absolute rubbish, my pajero wit worn out absober perform better tht fresh out of the oven sorento, staright line on good other rubbish
