Helo everyone out there. I'm planning to change to a new car, and have been doing some survey. Those survey only include the price tags, mostly because I can;t really find the reliability and durability of the car in question.

Cars that I've survey includes Toyota Vios, Honda City, and Perodua MyVI. I excluded Hyundai in my research. Anyway, I'm kinda leaning toward Honda City VTEC more than VIOS, mostly because there are more features in City than in Vios. What I need to know are:

-reliability, durability
-Fuel Consumption,
-pickup, or the power of the car.

Please note that I'm not someone who knew a lot about cars. Ask me about torque and I can't even answer you.

Anyway, I have test drive only Honda City VTEC (the sales center don;t have a I-DSI for test drive) and Toyota Vios. For me, both have about the same pickup. But one thing thou, the Honda City VTEC test drive car that I was on have some problem, one being the 7 Speed button not functioning. A new car and already have defects???? And it's for test drive???? This makes me doubt the durability and reliability of the car. But on the other hand, Vios don;t really have alot of feature to play with. A mechanic friend of mine told me that Honda cars are not durable and reliable, things are made out from cheap plastic, like the hinge of the bumper are locked down using a screw made out from plastic.

I kinda like the interior of Vios than City VTEC. The silver metallic control panel in City VTEC makes it looked like it is made out from cheap plastics (maybe Honda City owners have a way to deal with it? If so, please help?)

About fuel consumption, from what I heard, VTEC tend to burn more than i-DSI, but from the salesman, both are about the same, if the VTEC engine does not kick in (meaning I did not rev it up to about 4k rpm). Can anyone please verify this? Also i-DSI engines have more pickup than VTEC engine, but VTEC engine can still go on after a certain speed. Is it true?

So, I hail to all Toyota Vios and Honda City VTEC owner, please shed some light for me. Both cars are not cheap and I don;t want to regret making the wrong decision, ie buying a car that give a lot of trouble in later days.

And oh, if anyone got any suggestion, maybe suggestion of a better car in that price range, please don;t hesitate to post it. Any suggestion that you guys have is most welcome.

Thanks in advance.

-reliability, durability (Both Vios and City will give u this)
-Fuel Consumption, (I thnk the IDSI would give the better of the other 2)
-pickup, or the power of the car..(Would be the VTEC or the vios)

Ok..my dads city is the first batch..and until now..all buttons work..nothing has come off...and i think we have done around 108,000KM..on the clock..and till now..all the things work properly..

I dont think this one is true..the IDSI lacks grunt...while the VTEC gives it...i would prefer the VTEC..

the IDSI will give u better efficency..but i think the difference is tooo small...

BTW..both VIOS and CITY may soon be replaced by newer models..i think they have been launched in thailand already...

ALso Please SEARCH as thier are Numerous articles..and threads that have already discussed this...

vios id say, all the advantages if any would be too small.

as for the pricing, taken from respective websites (honda's website is more basic and easier to use but toyota's is more impressive with the slot-style bars)

vios - 1.5E 76k 1.5G 83k
city - IDSI 80k VTEC 85k

go for the 1.5G mainly because of the rear disc compared to the drums and call it a day ?

If Honda really gonna replace their City with a newer model, then I might as well wait for a while. But I only know that there is a newer model for VIOS, but not City (or the new City is call City ZX?) I couldn't find any leads to it. Anyone help please?

Any thanks for the reply, both ehaab and infernaL^^

mind elaborate how you try to use the 7 speed button? if I'm not mistaken, you need to push/pull the 7-speed button before you can use the button on the steering to change the gear.

The vios 1.5E comes in Manual as well.

So if you're looking for a full 5 speed manual instead of the tip-tronic crap, i'd recommend the vios 1.5 E

Sure, no problem^^. As i mention, I tried the car during a test drive session, the sales person was sitting beside me. So I asked him to teach me how to use the funciton. Press the "7 speed" button. So, I pressed. Nothing happened, nothing is shown on the display. So i pressed again, and again nothing happened. The sales person tried to press the button, and nothing happened. I was driving at 60kmph, and I tried pressing "-" 3 times, just to try and get the gear shift down so that i can feel the engine, at least to make sure it was working. But lol, nothing happened.

Vagabond - I'm currently driving a manual car, and now I'm trying to get an auto car. Due to massive traffic jam every time I come back from work, my leg is in constant pain. Trying to get an auto car to avoid that^^

.... i know how you feel ..... but i don't think i'll ever be able to give up the manual shift system...

hahahhaha, it's ok if there is no constant traffic jam.

Anyway, it seems like fuel consumption for i-dsi and VTEC is rather low, compared to Vios. My father's Vios can easily clocked at 600km++, but it doesn;t seem so for City.

Can anyone confirm that? And I know that FC is depend on how a person drive, let just say the guy is driving normal, doesn;t rev that much, occasionally only. I just wanna know the consumption rate on average. As far as I know, if VTEC engine didn;t kick in, VTEC model FC will be more or less the same as i-DSI model.

Thanks for replying^^
