Is it a good idea to run the radiator fan permanently 'ON' for our 20V?

if i answer that question, u wont get an easy one. it really depends

i consider solutions based on "Situation" and "Your Own Motive"

First i'll tell u what will be the consequences of running the radiator fan permanently.

PROS: Steady stream of air to help dissipate the heat from the coolant content. The engine will in theory run cooler at low speeds and in midrange. Depending on the condition and engine oil u use, that can be either good, or bad. At high speeds, I believe u do need the prolonged operation of the fan to help overcome the turbulence inside the engine bay especially during the day. The temperature during prolonged high speed, high rev driving usually ensures that the fan runs almost continuously even at stock settings.

CONS: You are using up the motor lifespan more quickly than the factory specified duration. When you use the car for street commute, leaving the fan on permanently is unnecessary for most stop-&-go traffic which basically mean it is a waste of product. The effect is; a probability that ur radiator fan may spoil before its intended time. It is not a big problem as long as u check ur temperature often; the only problem is that u may spend money & time on repairs that should come less often.

The radiator fan is made to run the way it is bcoz of its street application. factory mass-produced vehicles are devices full of compromises. The radiator fan is made to run after a certain temperature for 2 main reasons:

1. To ensure optimal engine operating temperature (too cold is not good sometimes)
2. To use the fan motor efficiently and ensure the longest lifespan/service span possible (save ur money on repairs)

With these compromises in mind, it is now up to you to come up with compromises of ur own; when considering if u should run the radiator fan permanently.

If u're a high revving driver, or building a track car using the 20V, by right u shouldnt be concerned about parts longevity. at least not expect the reliability to be better than stock parts. It's a good idea to leave the fan on all the time, but not an absolute must.

If all u do is drive to and from work, and sprint occasionally on the highway, leaving the fan on permanently is not a bad idea, but may cause premature failure and unecessary expenditure in repairs. the fan MIGHT spoil faster. thats all.

That said, i've had my silvertop radiator fan run permanently at full speed and A/C fan run at half speed permanently (they go full when i on A/C) for 3 1/2 years. My blacktop fan is running permanently at half speed and goes full according to normal spec when optimal temperature is reached. The silvertop radiator fan was still functioning when i took it out for transplant, and my blacktop fan has been running permanently (as stated above) for 2 years exactly.

and, sorry for the complicated answer.
