Distilled Water In Radiator

Let me see,

I have one litre of deionized battery water and its RM 2.00
2 litre would be RM 4.00. Ok ler.. one box of ciggies. :D :D

Tap water very chialat one. My area tap water not even suitable for drinking. All my house's steel pipe rusted already.

Now In manual it says radiator + reserve tank is 5 litre of liquid. yesterday I flushed the radiator
1. open screw from radiator
2. took out the reserve tank and pour out water and clean it. open the radiator cap. after all water came out.
3. I start engine while watching the temp. reading on techometer. engine running for 4 mins The temp shows standard at half. My friend said NO water coming out while engine running. Now off engine
4. Fix back the screw for radiator and radiator cap. Fix back the reserve tank.
5. Pour 900ml of redline coolant into radiator.
6. Pour 2 liter of distiiled/purified water into radiator.
7. pour 100ml of coolant + 150ml purified water into reserve tank.
8. Take 12" spanar and loosen only loosen the termostat screw. This screw has yellow mark on it. Loosen to release the hot air. I did not remove the entire screw. Then thighten back the screw.
9. start engine 5 mins. Saw temp show normal at half.
10. off engine . saw reserve tank reduced 50ml water. Pour the 50 ml .
11. start engine - 5 mins 12. off engine. no reduce in water. Now my question:
a). u see I poured in only 3150ml of liquid only. WHILE MANUAL SAYS IT should have 5 litre. Where is the balance?
B). In volvo there is a screw below engine where we must open to relase water those within the engine, cyclider bloack and water pump . This screw will release those water within those inlets. while radiator screw only release radiator water.

where is the screw for wira? does it have one?

c). Is this procedure/steps done by me is correct? d). if u realize, i did start engine after all water comes out (step 3). If the engine running, by right water moves via water pump , cyclinder, then back to radiator and be cooled then goes back into engine inlets. My water pump is OK, if not long time it`s showing high temp.

where is the 1850ml? now that the question tricky did u ppl realize this?

I USE waterwetter redline and spritzer distilled water

Te remaining water still in your engine block. It didn't get drained out because when you start your engine, it isn't hot enough to activate the water pump yet so it's all still stuck inside your engine block. :)

The water is still logged inside the engine. Last time i saw my mechanic service this BMW radiator, he used some sort of pressure pump to push out water. I think this equipment is what we don't have. Acording to him, most conti engines must do like this.

I'm also aware of the release nuts. BMW also have the same screws. Albiet located in different areas.

Anyway running the engine even when u have flushed out all the water would not create any pressure. The pump i not like our regular water pump, where pressure is generated instantly.

Most of you guys got the main idea,

The most important thing of all is that, never filled your radiator with only water or something else beside anti freeze or coolant.

Coolant or antifreeze is a very vital part of the cooling system bu why anything beside them is harmful to the radiator, because

Water-- it will rust your radiator very quick and cause the calcitation so fast and its hard to imagine.

When the radiator rust and calcitation occur it will not only reduce the radiator ability to dissipate the heat and the rust and calcite will be damaging the rest of the engine parts which will come contact with the fluid such as the engine block, water pump, thermostat and ...........blah blah... ;)

Use proper coolant or antifreeze from reputable workshop, because in Malaysia, you wil have problem to buy the co called legitimate coolant products.

These coolant has three main function, ONE to provide effective coolin, TWO to provide rust, THREE to prevent formation of calcite.

However, not all car is suitable to use 100% pure coolant, cars like mitsubishi and japanese vehicle models typically use only 25-35% coolant.

It is rarely a concentration of 60% to be used, even most car shouldn't touch 55%.

This is because when such high concentration of coolant is used, the heat dissipation efficiency is lost.

provide rust?! sure bor?!

zephyred! you try and let us know looo .....
oh shut up.

so.. u still flying to abu dahbi?

haha, yeah when i read the "Provide Rust" also, i was laughing... i think he means PREVENT la...

anyway, i think the only difference between Distilled/Deionized water from ordinary Tap water is that using D/D Water, it helps discourage the calcitation in the radiator.

basic chemistry, D/D water (esp distilled water) has extremely low or none at all minerals in it, unlike ordinary tap water which is filled with Calcium, Potassium, Chlorine, Fluorine, Magnesium, etc etc... which apparently is good for our health. that's why it's not a very good idea to drink only distilled water as you are depriving your body of these vital trace amount of minerals.

a famous chemist once said "RUST NEVER SLEEPS" and that is pretty true. rust will still occur over time as oxidation only chemically requires iron and Oxygen.

4Fe + 3O2 ---> 2Fe2O3

so don't expect that by using D/D water, it'll help prevent rusting of the radiator. as for me i perform an engine flush 2wice a year, the chemical in the Flushing Liquid seems to "lift" surface rust and these drain out when you empty the radiator. dunno if it works but it costs like 20 bucks every 6 months, so i don't mind.

geez man.. suddenly i have flash backs of my chemistry class .... nooo.. noo oo.. NOOOOO!!!!! almost failed chemistry in school.

speaking of radiator. How come my radiator reserves tank seems to dry up.. pretty often.. like a few weeks once i need to refill. Leaking somehwere?

I have told you repeatedly that it's not teh tarik in there! you never listen do you? NOT teh Tarik!

tiew!!! go fly far far away la u!

Sorry dudes,

I meant to prevent rust afterall

Thanks for pointing it out ! :D

the radiator sucks up water from the reserve tank to compensate whatever it has lost.

so, the problem would be why your radiator is losing water so fast....
