Hey guys,

I'm a bit of a newbie in regards to rotaries, but I'm planning to get an FD engine I bought, rebuilt and the guy I normally go to quoted me the following:

convert engine/setting - RM1200
engine overhaul + porting + gasket - RM1800
racing apex seal - RM1600
corner racing seal - RM500

I was just wondering if these are average prices or if I'm seriously being overcharged? I'd like to trust the guy, but I just wanna make sure before I start this big project.

I'd really appreciate any insights or advice from the gurus! Thanks, dudes!

i am not guru,

i was told the gasket about 850,
apex seals depends on brand, 900 for stock apex seal plus spring. i faintly recall from surfing net
if you try to pursuade maybe can get 10 percent less la.. just think that in u k the labour charge is by hour then this is very cheap ha ha. .. u have to wait for the real guru coming soon..

btw, do u put rotary engine into non rotary car ka??re u from Jb or kl site?

Thanks for the input, mate!

Hahaha.....I can't even begin to imagine labour charges in the UK.....work for 1 month to pay for 1 hr!

I'm from the KL site and I'm putting an FD engine into a rebuilt RX7 Savanna.

Keep the comments and help coming! Thanks, guys!

In your opinion and experience, RERider, do you think these prices are fair?

put fd engine in fc.. u need engine mounts either made up or buy an engine mount kit (forgot where to buy from).
why do you want to use fd engine in fc? fc can get as much power as fd engine.

i nice setup for big power would be fc s5 block, extended street port, use s4 low compression rotors, fd corner seal springs. mazda apex tips are good enough for your most average use.

the fc uim can handle more than 500bhp. if you want looks then can use fd uim or even a 13b re (from cosmo) uim but would need to use their TB and either port match the uim to lim or use an adaptor.

uk tuners charge around £45 / hr.
rebuild cost about £3500 and inc
engine removal / install
rebuild using new seals, springs, apex tip etc. basically only reuse e-shaft, rotors, intermediate plates, not too sure about housing, depends on condition.

porting = £500

i dont think you need racing seals and apex tips unless you plan on getting over 500bhp from the engine.
hope this info is interesting :)

Thanks for the informative post, man! That helps put things in perspective......guess I'll be going thru with it, seeing the prices are pretty much on par. I've pretty much gone with this guy for everything that I've done to my 7.....but just wanted to double check and make sure (for this big project) that my hard-earned cash was being spent well!

Actually, I wanted to put a 13b RE Cosmo engine into my 7, but the cost was too much. So settled for something more common, less pricey, more modern: FD engine. Still a cosmo 13b would'a been pretty sweet to have!

Thanks again for your help, mate!

oh, one other thing you might want to look at / consider is if he has rebuilt rotaries before.
price are one thing but if he not rebuilt a rotary before then i wouldn't use him.

i dont know who this guy is etc but make sure he's had past experience in rebuilding them and also see what the quality is like.
see if you can find ppl on the forum who he has rebuilt their engine and see if they are all working ok and no problems.

i learned this the hard way so best be sure :)

oh, this place is good for parts but they in USA

Thanks again for the advice, mate! This guy's re-built engines before, but I'm just wondering about the prices he's charging me. After checking out that pinappleracing site, his prices do seem pretty inflated, especially since you can ship those parts from that site over here for like half of what he's charging me. More food for thought...

Anyways, thanks for the help and the heads-up....that's great, man!

if you only paying the cost you have listed above then is pretty good value i think (though im from uk so slightly different lol)
if there are more cost then you are better off to buy a rebuilt enigne from japan, get a custom rebuilt one from re amemiya or panspeed :p
