Come September would you pump RON95 or RON97?

RON requirement for specific cars? Aiyooohhh....just google it la.

Hoho...I not need worry about put low grade petrol(RON95) can loose power d....I also find the way to adjust the ignition timing with distributor adjusting n now planning have to put super power MSD ignition system.....hehehe:nurse:

recently there was an article publish on our local newspaper explaining about RON..the article is from Chevron or better known as Caltex spokesperson..actually it turn out to be all this RON fuss is not necessary..higher RON simply means it could withstand high compression ratio which result in less pre-ignition..in japan, the place where turbo and valve timing tech is worshipped, they even use RON 91..and the power delivery difference is insignificant..so i tried tried RON 92, and with a little tweak at the distributor and TPS, everything is as sweet as RON 97..my recommendation is, before start pumping or when running on RON 95, tune your car to suit RON 95..those who is using ignition coil, send your car to reset the ECU/auto retard/knock sensor or whatever..and those who is using distributor, retard it when engine knocking occurs..but be careful, too much retard also can cause engine knocking..

The decision has been made and the motion passed....

Now from September onwards RON97 will cost RM2.00 and RON92 will be phased out in favour of RON95 which will cost RM1.75 per litre.

So the question is...would you fill in your beloved ride with RON95 or Ron 97 when September comes?

Personally I would stick to RON97. I survived the RM2.70 per litre era.... so RM2.00 per litre would not hurt that much.

user manual sez i only need RON91. so why i wanna waste money on higher RON fuel?
fer the record, i am not driving a turbocharged, vvti'd, 600bhp, awd that runs at 2 bar, fer crying out loud.

check yur car's user manual, get to know your car's requirements.
it'll save you a lot. :burnout:

for high compression cars, can we reduce the compression ratio by using thicker head gasket, lets say from 0.8mm to 1.2mm? will it reduce knocking? i dont mind about the power loss as long as my internal engine parts will not suffer from knocking

Those who can adjust their timing good for them leee.... but for us day to day folks it is much easier to just change fuel. Less fuss.

Some facts to clarify a few things after going thru this thread:
1) RON92 was never meant to be an inferior fuel. It will work just fine in 95% of cars on the road. It just got a bad rep as "minyak merah murah", confusion that it was leaded (Its not), etc.
2) All cars that come into Malaysia (except from grey importers), are required to minimally run on RON 92. All will run just fine on RON92, with the Civic Type R as maybe the only exception.
3) Most modern day cars have knock sensors and will adjust the timing accordingly to the type of fuel. So no issue of having to retune, etc.
4) Malaysia's V-power is RON97, NOT RON98/99. Its expensive because its derived from an entirely different better quality base fuel and has far more superior additives that Shell has put in. Refer para 6 ---> http://www.motortrader.com.my/NUS/articles/article_712/page_m.asp

If v power can spoil the engine..the gov wont sell the vpower here la...i used v-power all the way since it sold here in malaysia..100% ok?

I tink your mec theory is upside down...:stupid:

i found out recently, with ron 92, eventhough it can be as sweet as ron 97, but when i drive my car to the max (5000rpm+) about 110km/h in third gear, it produces engine knocking..which is quite sad..but then again it is parallel to its nature of unable to withstand high compression (maybe high rpm operation as well?) as ron 97 could..therefore, as stated by chevron spokesperson, those who're using high performance engine or usually drive at hi range rpm are better off with ron 97..those who like to cruise, won't be trouble by ron 92..but ron 95? cross our fingers..

I think its great to have Ron95 at RM1.75 (till it goes up again). All the national cars including the Korean makes are made to run on Ron90...so I guess its better for their cars.

Peodua's also are on minimal Ron90 so its gonna be great to have that upgrade.
