Bio-Fuel, Hydrogen, Electricity, words that are quite frequently thrown around these days, sadly though, they are commonly used to announce intent rather than an achievement. I accept that there are car manufacturers that have produced vehicles that already run on ‘alternative fuel’ systems but hardly enough to justify the outcry. It’s just like creating a homologation special edition so a manufacturer can go rallying, there is no real intention to produce these vehicles but rather they are made to satisfy laws and in this case, show a green-face.

There is word that BMW is attempting to revive its renowned “bubble car” Isetta, probably under the same Isetta badge or the classis British badge, Triumph. This is further supported by BMW who announced last September that there would be a separate fourth brand lined up next to Mini and Rolls Royce under the Munich-based manufacturer. It has also been reported that BMW was developing a low-emissions vehicle under this fourth brand to rival the upcoming Audi A1 and the VW Up!

Just recently, we got a report that said BMW was not looking into having advanced technologies like a hybrid system for this mini car, but is said to be opting for a small yet high-performing turbo petrol and diesel engines, mainly for economy and environmental reasons, though I don’t see how with regards to the latter so it appeared to me that BMW was falling into the ‘all talk and no action company’ category that I was mentioning earlier.

Contrary to that, we got word yesterday that BMW is seeking alternative fuel or power systems, which they think would be more appropriate for town use, which is what this car is designed to do. An Electric Vehicle is rumoured to be in development, to be introduced as a build up towards hydrogen fuel or fuel cell.

Maybe now we will see a manufacturer that actually puts its money where its mouth is and produces what it says it will produce. Don’t expect to see it on our shores because we're an ignorant lot but at least it’s a start towards a greener tomorrow, which I strongly support.

I forgot to mention something, this BMW appears to be strangely similar to the Suzuki Swift ! Chris Bangle running out of ideas finally? Or maybe BMW doesn't know how cheap cars should look like. Either way, it looks like crap.
