i just tranplant mivec-MD gen 1 to my car n stil running in condition. i was trying to engage my mivec yesterday n found that knocking sound happen while mivec open arnd 5.5k rpm onward during slow acceleration but if fast acceleration the knocking sound just happen at the period of mivec kicking which is 5.5k-6.5k rpm only .. besides, my car r difficult to start when my engine was heat...your feedback will be appriciate...

i'm using ron97.. is it over high compression piston problem can be settle by adjusting the timing?

fren...did u instal adjustable cam pulley?
if yes, may too high degree oredi..

But if not,
Check your ignition timing, may too hi setting also...
and it will also sound like not enough 'current' during idling (like almost mati engine)

i'm running with 1.8 block n using bck my mivec piston.. my mechanic said the sound is normal for my engine setup n wouldn't cause any problem to the engine n it can be solve by adjusting the timing but it'll reduce the engine performance.. is it truth?

wat head gasket spec u use now? (hard start engine mostly is high compression pasal)
but knocking gila better test compression 1st. from my view u is over compression. (head gasket and piston should match up)

well, ur's situation are same with me...
they just increase ur ignition timing to increase ur rev. response...but it will cause knocking especially uphill...right?

W/o disturbing any setting, just try to use Ron95 and chck ur engine oil level(make sure it always at max level coz mivec will easily somke out)...

yaaa.. maybe yr pomen is right ... just try retard your ignition timing abit ... it can solve yr prob..

try use timing light & check yr ignition at idle speed ... maybe you wrongly adjust the CAS sensor too advance...

yr compression increase + ign timing not correct ... you will suffer knocking & hard to start ( the engine will kickback coz of timing too advance)

in yr situation, retarding ign timing maybe will improve power... coz yr current setting is knocking... so ign timing need to set cun2 to get power depend on engine setup, fuel & etc ... too advance = knocking , too retard = no power

try adjust timing first..... if still not solve, maybe yr over compression .. 97ron fuel cannot sapot... try use thick gasket o lowdown the compression..

tuning might be able to settle this prob.are you using any piggyback?

or you can try to install thicker metal gasket...reduce compression...or adjust the timing...

engine oil in max level? wont it will make ur engine fell much more sluggish?!
yes...of coz will be heavy...feel like less power

okuyama,
Tuning won't solve your problem...
coz the moment when they tune with AFC or E-manage (any piggyback),
they will adjust the mechanism part 1st before the tune your ECU...
In the other words, if the setting is already too advance until knocking,
the tuning is only compromise the air to fuel ratio, or simplify as reduce but not solve the knocking...

as nan83 said,
u have to try to reduce ta bit the timing...
If i ain't mistaken, when u retard a bit the ign timing, ur knocking will appear at low rpm...(eg. 3k rpm)...
And now u are to much adv joh!!!
God bless

Advance timing = lean burn
Retard timing = rich burn

if you retard, rich burn maybe good for low rev n remove knocking, but FC can be hell, performance sluggish.

just use emanage and adjust the airfuel and ignition lor. I adjusted from 14:1 to 13:1, no more knocking and performance even better than 14:1. Sometimes even adjust to 12:1 oso can, need to test run n tune along the way. if u looking reliable n good pricing tuner, pm me. he expert in mitsu engines.

Normally, the timing will be set to factory position, like 11 or 12 degree. Then only tune with piggyback. Rekomen Emanage over SAFC, coz Emanage have wider tunablity. Results better.

before fuel price increased, i pump petronas97 and performance good, after price increased, due to no more petronas97 hence i pumped synergyF1 and resulted weak performance, with lots knocking alike sound... no choice but to use vpower... still, under extremely hot sun always hv irritating sound during 3.5k and 4.5krpm... Is it necessary to retune?

Bro okuyama, i also use 1.8 block with mivec piston, ori gasket... i still think this setting is good, nice power for daily use...

I need a answer.......
Any one can tell me: how the ecu know when to inject fuel to the chamber ?

A/F Ratio at 12.8~ 13.5 is the best ....

Hi Guys,

I need your opinion on whether which is a better option.
I'm planning to have a small family soon, need a family car, preferably a small/mid size SUV with the budget not more than RM100k, or below.

I like the B170 due to it's size and overall design of the car. However, with my budget, i can only get a used one, possibly 2007/08 model. I'm well aware of the wear and tear of a used Merc, it's obviously costlier than the Jap.

On the other hand, with my current budget, i can...
