Water to replace fuel/petrol?

Would like to get your opinions/comments.

Is it possible for a car to run by using water? I have been told, somebody has done a PHD about that.

If it works, its gonna be a good business. Creating a car which runs by just using water. What a cheap source of energy..

Any comment?

PS: I have the rough source of technical explanation of the PHD. But can't reveal here. I have done a mutual agreement with the so-called PHD writer..:)

IF WATER can replace FUEL/PETROL there are many consequences
1. chop shop engine sales increase due to all letupkan engine rev until red line
2. accident surely increase at least 500% cause only need water who will not race until they accident?
3. traffic jam teruk teruk.........all people doing nothing now driving for fun
4. water rate sure increase like hell to replace the RM1.92/litre for petrol hahahaha.

no i dont think so..
i think u may have misunderstood the point..
the alternative energy is from Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology..simple electrolysis between oxygen and hydrogen where the product is water...
the reaction creates electricity..which can be used to power the car..the only thing coming from the exhaust will be water ..
this is feasible..yet expensive at the moment..but VERY efficent..

if your phd guy dont mind, care to shwo me some of his work? I might be able to ask a few of my lecturers to share their view on this matter.

water injection (or water methanol injection) to control knocking and aid cooling is not a new sight however.

and then, there is a 6 cycle engine that injects water on one of it's strokes. basically a hybrid between a normal combustion engine and a steam engine. Interesting concept, but the praticality of carrying so much water on a automobile is just.....bleh. remember how much water steam locomotives needed to carry? and remember, you need "clean" water to protect your combustion chamber.

anyways, that might be very useful for non-moving applications like a factory motor.

It may be a new study but then again, its not refined yet and we may well have to wait another like 30-40 years before the technology allows water to be used like petrol is now. I doubt there's any efficiency in using water, you might have to carry like few hundred Kg's of water on board to fuel a trip. Who knows, 30 years down the road, you just need to carry 50Kg of water for a trip to Penang.

And then again, no manufacturer would just suddently use water as a fuel. Imagine what the repercussions are for the petroleum industry. All those billions of dollars spent in building rigs, pipeline, refinery.

I hv read this artical at local newspaper few weeks ago, its not Hydrogen fuel cell or use Hybrid engine at all, it just use normal engine but using water to produce hidrogen and O2 gases. this all done by electrolisis process, which use 2 electrode +ve and -ve. Im not sure which electrode for gases type, but 1 electrode for 1 type of gases. coz water comes from 2 part of hydrogen and 1 part of O2. so electrolisis proses will seperate this two gases using electrical power. Hydrogen gases will use for fire source and O2 (pure oxigen) for combustion complement. but we still need petrol because currently this tech can only save petrol usage up to 25% only.

honda has this one concept car, a hybrid of coz but still in research. if not mistaken, city hall of chicago was presented with one. the concept car cost more than US1.5 mil to produce.

its run by electric motors and generated by hydrogen power. where does hydrogen comes from? water laa isnt it?... H20.

the technology is still far and not economic yet. i am thinking quite impossible until maybe year 2020.
