I have just received my Swift today after 1 week waiting period. Reasons why I picked it:
They`re giving 2 years or 50,000km (whichever comes first) maintanence free. Most cars offer the same but they still charge u the parts used. In this instance, the fully synthetic oil is provided free so it really is cost free maintanence. Swift feels very solid (knew that from the moment u close the door). Auto transmission feels very smooth, u don`t get the feeling u`re moving fast even though u are. There`s a meter that calculates fuel consumption as u move. Car comes standard with ABS, EBS, Air bags, etc. Instead of a rubber timing belt, u get a chain belt which would last u till the engine needs an overhaul. Interest rates are going between 2.45% to 2.70% depending on number of years repayment (maximum 9 years where u pay less than RM1k a month) and which branch u go to. Some branch allow financing till 95% of car loan. Small and compact, very easy to drive and park and not forgetting the turning radius is very small so easy to make U turns. The small little things like headrests for back passengers adds nice finishing touches. Not forgetting the ability to adjust the seating position to get ur optimum driving position is the best!
Bad points: Windows and windscreen feels small. There`s more body than glass (better protection and less heat to the car interior, I suppose) but for a taller person, the car roof feels like it`s too slanted to the front, thereby giving u the impression that the windscreen is short. The built in HU makes it difficult to mod and change to other players. Although car weight gives the car its solidity and stability, it is takes a toll on acceleration. I felt it didn`t accelerate as fast as I expected. Glove compartment is small. Antenna is like MyVi and Waja, easy to remove (tried it at the showroom)
Now, looking at it from a financial point of view, suppose u`re a guy like me who have 80+k to spend. Let`s see what I can afford .... discounting Proton, u`ve got Vios and Honda City (naturally, ppl would compare them even if they`re not of the same class. Say what u like about Jazz, it`s beyond my budget so I didn`t even consider it). I chose not to take Vios coz back seat is not comfortable for taller passengers. City Vtec is a good bet .... nice power, low fuel consumption, good 2nd hand value. Unfortunately, my wife doesn`t like it`s design so finally there`s only 1 choice. Swift wins from an esthetic point of view. So compare Swift with Jazz in it`s 1.5 hatchback class, Jazz loses from intial sales price (for all we know, 2nd value may be a lot higher). For Vios, Swift wins from cabin space (personal opinion. Actual statistics may differ but I`m not sure. Didn`t bother to check). For City, I prefer the sporty Swift look.
Now, is that the right way to decide which car to buy? I don`t know .... it`s all up to the buyer, after all. At the end of the day, it`s really what makes u happy with what u can afford.
