the r&d costs needed to make something that can match a carrera gt would probably cripple proton. there would be no money left to fund mainstream models like the waja, perdana, etc.
even if the idea took off, who's gonna buy something like a proton carrera gt? even honda, with all its engineering credentials, had a tough time selling the nsx in european markets (i think they sold about 20 of them in 2003).
