Dear ALL Skyline senior,

i am going to buy a GTT R34, but the car owner told me that, skyline when get temperature up aka heating during long hour in traffic jam....

and this is normal to a turbo car...

please guide, advice needed....

any solution for this ?

cheers,

tK

turbo car temp same as NA car during traffic jamm.
only during 150kmj n above for long distance, oil temp up a bit but nothing problem.
i think you must send the car to workshop first before u confirm...

honda6831, that is not normal at all. I think the owner's car has got some cooling issues. A clogged radiator perhaps?!?.

Well, at least he was up front about it. But no, temp should not go up sitting in traffic. We're talking water temp right? Stock gauge not an aftermarket gauge? If everything is stock then there you should probably look around at other GTTs as well in case there is something wrong. Are you looking at just the one car atm?

Erm... My bnr34 does tends to heat up momentarily whenever stuck in a jam for a long period of time under a hot sunny day. It could even reach up to 110c at times.

woww 110c....but wht about ur stock water temp gauge?? is it still normal or overheat?

Mine has changed to Nismo Meter, it'll increase momentarily as well.. ; usually mine would stay around 100c as well... but that day i was really in bad luck... stuck in a massive jam under a real damn hot sun..... i was a bit shock as well seeing my mfd reaching 110c.... luckily the jam cleared and i'm on the move again... so temp drop back to normal.. *phew**

U still maintaining the clutch fan type? Might need check your clutch fan whether it`s well engage.

Yes still using the fan. How to check whether it is engaging properly? As far as I know, it engage whenever I start engine and disengage immediately after I switch off my engine.

It would like what you say but clutch fan will 100% engage when air temp from rad is hot 70-80deg. On start up it will engage after a while it will reduce the fan speed and there is deviation between pulley speed and your fan clutch speed at abt 80%.

How to check? I`m not a pro but this is just a method to look out:

Outlook:
1. Oil drip/fluid from clutch itself.
2. Push the tip upward backward to see any loosen (Bearing damage)

Diagnosis:
1. With engine stop try rotate the fan, it will give some resistance at 1.5-2 rotation
(medium resist) but not much free.
If don`t move at all, clutch freezing (bad cond- would not reduce during high speed or cold)
If don`t give resistance or lot free, clutch wear out and hard to engage when hot - Bad cond.

2. During engine on/start/idle,you will hear some noise from clutch fan meaning it`s engaging and
pay attention to your water temp to keep maintain. If water temp increasing and there is no
noise, from it meaning it doesn`t engage or you may look how it`s spin compare to pulley speed
if slower then this indicate a wear out clutch viscous coupling.

* You may compare with other Skyline member during gathering to diagnosis how free your clutch
fan compare other good cond skys.....might can tell difference feel there. :burnout:

All above must be done after you check your radiator, reservoir tank or hose condition and confirm no leaking~

Thanks bro. Say after checking, it turned out to be really something wrong with the clutch fan. Is it difficult and expensive to replace? Is it normal for clutch fan to wear out often?

Bro,

is the clutch fan related to the gearbox clutch ? sorry , newbie here...

cox the GTT i am buying is a Auto one...

please advice,

cheers,
