Old car or New Car with the same price???

Actually, if you don't mind me asking what sort of maintenance did you have to do when you got the car and how much is it costing you to maintain the MarkX?

So far just the below:
- 6 iridium spark plugs cause found out that they use Camry spark plugs which is different heat range. Price is depending what plugs you want to buy.

- 6ltrs engine oil per change, which is also depending on how much you're willing to spend (I only bought Mobil 1 Full Synth from Tesco when on discount, so it's only rm210 for 6ltrs). Oil filter about rm50, but a few months ago I find out from the club where to get for only rm35.

- Brakes I did upgrade cuz the std brakes sucked! I spent just a bit over 2k for this upgrade (pads, rotors, brake hose). This is the biggest expense for me on the maintenance. Others in the club spend >3k to replace the front with new 4 pot BBK from GS300 which is plug & play to Mark X.

- Decarbonizing and fixing fuel line vibration due to the in-tank fuel pump assembly got air leaks/bubling, paid rm300.

That's about it. The other things I did were not maintenance but more about mod or add-on.

Next up on my maintenance list in about a months time are ATF, differential oil, and aircon oil & gas which should be similar to any other Toyota.

Btw note that I bought recon car that comes with 1yr warranty so that's why I have not change all fluids yet like normal as I just follow their recommended schedule. Now after 1yr warranty expires, then will change the rest. So far so good though. :)

Korean, Jap, and Proton shares some similarities though.
Modern Protons still can use Mitsu.

Are you sure Korean cars are reliable and gives out a good FC or not?

Proton cars can be a good car if you know how to take care of them. If you treat them like junk, of course they will get spoiled easily.

Korean cars most advance? Base on what made you think so? :hmmmm2:

Expensive parts is true but most advance...don't think so. Still Japanese cars are more advance.
Only thing advance about Korean cars where I can see is Design that's all

If you take Kia, Hyundai and Ssanyyong to compare with the TRUE potential of Japanese cars like those from Lexus, Infiniti and Acura, the Koreans won't even have a chance. Imagine, comparing K5 Optima and Sonata with Lexus GS, Lexus ES and Infiniti M (Nissan Fuga).

In terms of design, the Koreans have fancy looking designs that appeals to many people especially the youth. However, in terms of class and identity in designs, I think that will still go to the Japanese.

The Cerato actually is way more equipped than any Toyota or any other car within the same price bracket and segment.

Memory seats! That sorta thing is only found in Mercedes'. It remembers your last sitting position and reverses back for easy getting out of the car. Ventilated seats and all. Gearbox and engine relatively new compared to the same segment competitors, not too shabby performance figures especially for the 1.6L and a whole lot more.

I think the Koreans are catching up or on par with the Japanese in terms of technology. They only lose out in terms of resale value. But it's only a matter of time before even that is on par.

Chassis design - I think this highly depends on the market segment. The Nissans all have crappy chassis (excluding the performance cars la) and Hondas are not too shabby. Toyotas of late use torsion beams and the cars are pretty erm.. understeery me thinks. But if you start going up the performance car ranges Japs > Koreans this I gotta agree.

As for design - again Nissan and Honda. Gawd.. what's with the Almera direction la? The new Sylphy is going to be designed like the god ugly Almera and Teana is... ugly already. Drives nice though. Hondas of late are just ugly. The newest gen Civic also loses out to the previous one. And that Euro Civic is just weird.

I dunno. But I guess design is really subjective?

No néed Mercedes bro, Memory seats Lexus CT200 already have. Got 3 memory settings for seats. but then of course cost more than Ceratopsia.

Korean cars yes, lose out in terms of resale value and also parts availability which is expensive than japaneses cars, yet is not really as reliable as Japanese cars yet. Fc wise, is the improvement I see in new Korean cars. Take Elantra for example.

Camry previous gen looks better, bulkier.

New Civic 2.0 doesn't even have DOHC engine anymore. Throw away the K series engine for the R series engine. :banghead:

Look at it carefully, I think the Japanese companies are giving our local markets with low quality cars which totally does not reflect their current level of technology. Cars like Almera and City are not sold in the Japanese market at all. But 2nd generation Vios a.k.a dugong is sold in Japan as Toyota Belta.

If we compare with what kind of Toyota, Honda and Nissan that are available in their own market with ours, we can really see how pathetic the models that we get over here.

Koreans are trying to dominate our local budget car market. The Japanese looked as if they are just trying to sell their cars based with their brand name alone. Sad for our market. :banghead:

Agree, Koreans seems to sell most of their models or all? Not sure, as for Japanese cars, they are limiting the models available for Asian Markets. Sad but what to do? They are afraid to have losses but can't blame them, they are doing business and they are bringing in models base on consumer needs and mentality in Malaysia. After so long only revive the FT86 to us. But too bad they are not coming out with the convertible FT86

With the ridiculous tax structure and the need for a bumiputra joint company or director as a major share holder, which company would want to bring in their biggest sellers la? VW had major issues coming into Msia and even bigger issues when they tried to negotiate a deal with P1 for a JV. Something about not wanting to give majority share holdership to P1 and something about technology sharing.

You tell me who wants to do that when they are dominating every market elsewhere in the world?

Got. Proton Accord coming soon

Koreans din't bring all their models over here. I know there are some they din't bring it here like Hyundai Genesis, Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Hyundai Equus (the rival for S class, 7 Series, Audi A8), Kia Cadenza and etc. But those are rather high end luxury Korean cars so I think even if they do bring in those, our local people will have the mentality like "Ai ya, korean car also that expensive? I rather buy BMW, Mercedes or Audi loh". Even a prestigious company like Lexus is suffering from discrimination from the locals over here. As many have said, "Still a Toyota". I really dislike that quote...

The 86 and BRZ is overpriced. Their pricing is too close to the Impreza WRX STI. In other countries, they are suppose to be way cheaper than the WRX STI. :banghead:

Gotta agree with u. The policies in our country is one of the reasons for the Japanese cars here not on par with the rest of the world. :banghead::banghead:

Those who said Lexus still a Toyota, they are just sour grapes, can't afford then give such comments. I don't see people saying infiniti still a Nissan or Acura a still a Honda...Then Audi still a VW?? :hmmmm:

During the 90s, we still get great japanese cars over here. But now, we get low end cars with 'Japanese' brand on them. :banghead:

They are just plain stupid. If I am not wrong, Lexus manage to outsold Mercedes in USA during the 90s. For now, I'm not so sure. Those very recent Lexus models like the new GS, IS and LS looks simply fantastic in my point of view. The interior is very nice.

Cannot count Audi as VW because Audi's original roots are not traced back to VW. However, Porsche is related to VW as they are started by the same person. So, can we call Porsche 911 as VW Beetle?
