Hello ppl. There are a few questions that I hope some of you guys here can help. I was doing some reading on forced induction cuz I'm interested to get my 850 T5 done up. I came across these few issues;

1. The intercooler piping for almost ALL turbo cars will have slight or a thin film of oil residue inside it due to the oil vapour that condensed in the intercooler. Some suggest that adding a oil catch tank will do the trick and avoid clogging the intercooler. My question is; besides the cost factor, why is it that stock cars like my Volvo, SAAB, or some JDM models doesn't have a ready oil catch tank if this is such an effective method.

2. Does a recirculating BOV and a vent to atmosphere BOV still have the same issue of having oil residue in the intercooler piping? I have friends who messed up their engine bay due to the BOV 'spraying and squirting' oil all over...weird

Hope to hear from u guys soon..cheers and drive safely..

YES! An Oil catch tank will ELIMINATE the thin film of oil residue inside the i/C pipings as well as an intercooler free from condensed vapourized oil.

The presence of oil from the aftermarket blow off valve or OE dump valve is a syntom of excesive blow by and possible damage in the valvetrain seals.

An oil catch tank will be able to keep the oil from "sparaying and squirting" out of the BOV howeever, it is advisable to have your engine checked on the excesive blow bys. (on some cases, a leaky turbo compressor wheel was the cause, but to be safe, have it checked out by your mech.))
