It looks like Germany's autobahn system is safe from a potential increase of speed-limited areas, for now at least. As posted on numerous occasions, environmentalists, the European Union and even citizens of Germany have called for the adaptation of 80 mph (130 km/h) limits in the currently ungoverned sections. However, today the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, publicly rejected a proposal aimed at reducing automotive emissions through autobahn speed regulations. Thankfully, Mrs. Merkel is a logical woman as she stressed that traffic jams caused by slow vehicles contribute as much greenhouse gas as a few speedsters. She offered better traffic management as a more effective solution to the Autobahn issue. Now, if only Angela Merkel could bring her ideas over to California.

What a briliant PM!!!! To reduce traffic jam, we must kick out those who drive slowly on highway......

If only this is implemented in Malaysia. Then there wouldn't be any jams on the highway caused by road hoggers.

Ya. Agree agree... too many stupid turtles blocking on the road la. If they move away, the fast lane sure very smooth one. My brake pads also can last longer.

Malaysian drivers are too immature to be granted an Autobahn-like gift.

Just drive to the nearest highway and see which cars were driven on the fast lane:
1. Toyota Hilux
2. NAZA Ria (with whole family on tow)
3. Ssangyong Rexton

The drivers of these cars are f***ing lunatic. They think:

Car price more than RM100k = can drive fast

These 4x4s have a very high centre of gravity and low torque. They're not built to be driven like a Skyline. Unfortunately, their Malaysian owners are arrogant fools.

ahahah... wait till you see a lori on the fast lane. (*&^%$%^&*(:thefinger:

you go ldp and see, there is alot of big lorries that think they are very fast that drives in fast lane...damn

malaysian slow pokes should be fined... zigzaggers should be rewarded...ahahaha...

To tell frankly... luckily malaysia dont have this autobahn.. if not you will see some kancil, saga, wira with big exhaust pipe on the fast lane.. even now on highway u high beam them or honk them they still dont give a damm..

There are many high profile accidents in 4x4s. I can even remember one involving a cabinet minister.

Here's another high-profile accident involving 4x4. Happened yesterday:

Celebrated cardiologist killed in mishap

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Dr Nik Zainal Abidin Abdul Rahman who set up the first fully equipped cardiac catheterisation laboratory at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital in 1977 was killed in an accident in Bentong yesterday.

Dr Nik Zainal, 65, whose four-wheel drive collided with a trailer at about 5pm near the Karak Highway, died at the scene. A friend who was accompanying him escaped unhurt.

A traffic police spokesman said Dr Nik Zainal was heading towards Bentong town from his house in Janda Baik and was about to enter the highway when the incident occurred.

Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican described Dr Nik Zainal as a cardiologist who brought fame to the hospital and the country in general.

“His contribution in the medical field is immense and so is his reputation. He produced so many good doctors especially cardiologists in this country,” he said.

Dr Nik Zainal was also a member of the team that was involved in the first coronary by-pass surgery in the country on Oct 22, 1982.

"about to enter the highway" = low torque = slow = accident

He couldn't have not seen a big trailer.

What's wrong with these SUV owners? Do they think that the amount of torque their vehicles possess corresponds to the amount of money they paid for their vehicle?

Nowadays even Myvi,Kelisa also drive real fast maybe their car is light o.O ?? Well guess 110km/h speed limit is not enough hmm ?

goes to show hw our G thinks... d differences with other countries... speed does not kill, idiotic, pathetic , numbskull drivers do!!!!! reducing speed limit, did it HELP in reducing accidents frm happening? d last ops sikap? did it? enforcement only during festivals only.... re think ur strategy laaaa....

wow..
yeah.. speeding give less emission.. hahahahaha..

i think we should have mandatory minimum speed limits for highways la..
or, make it according to lane.. like fast lane, cannot less than 100..

dnt blame cars.... blame d drivers, or d systems tat gives dem d licence 2 drive, d instructers tat teaches dem, idiots who thinks a kancil is n evo, wira can out run n M3.... these idiots r d causes of road accidents... n also d mat rempits.... all talk abt dem bt nuthin done....

Define 'low torque' in a diesel engine.

They have massive torque from tickover.

Accidents are caused by the drivers. not the vehicle, like ACQ2305 said.
Idiot drivers who dont give a damn about road safety.
Those who dont wear seatbelts.
Those who dont look at mirrors.
Those who think, "ooh, I've got a bigger fart cannon than ur stock pipes, so I can go faster, so my cannon can fart louder".

The Borneo Post dated 29/10/07 under Home Page 9 wrote that the government has accepted mat rempits as part of the society. Question is, why should they accept these mat rempits? They are accepting them and saying that there are race tracks for these mat rempits to use to race and they can be trained for being a professional racer for the country. I think the "G" should at least think, if they say that they accept mat rempits, we should all be part of mat rempits lar. Government accept=police no catch=No saman=Modify kao kao lor also no problem.

If mat rempits migrate to there, you know what happens 1st?

Imagine..mat rempit show off driving at fast lane..all of a sudden.. VROOM!!! Mercedes drive pass by @ 220kmph. I think those mat rempits sure fall down. Muahaha..s95, if u reading, i bet you will be damn happy :P
