hi new to mivec .. just put it in and need some help
seem to be having some problems with mivec after awhile.
Engine light comes on.. blinking once.. then stays on solid .. idling became rough at start up before warming up.. loss of power.. huge backfires can be heard when slowing down and no mivec activation

can sumone help me rectify this problem ?
can it be:
-a faulty map sensor?
-dirty mivec solenoid? - how do you remove and clean it?
-loose connectors?- which wire mainly to check?

hope i do now need to rebuild engine
please help
thnx

matthew

it looks like some electronics faulty and the ecu set to limp mode. In Limp mode, the mivec will not kick in and rev will be cut at about ~5,600rpm.

First to check is the error code (if your mechanic have the lancer diagnostic hand held computer)
If there is no device to check, then try to check the plugs. See which one of the plug that cause the backfire (too rich / flooded with fuel).
The 3rd things to check is all the connection sockets (Fuel rail /injectors socket, engine oil sensor, ignition pack connectors, knock sensor, Idle stepper motor socket at TB, etc...)
The 4th thing to check is the ignition pack.
Last thing to check is your Map sensor (just swap with a good one to try - this not expensive)

The solenoid if stuck also will not show check engine light.
Hope that help you to narrow down the problem I would suggest you to look for experience Mivec/Vtec mechanic have a look as it is involve electronic failure.
