Hi fellows,
I have been searching the internet regarding this issue as I am working in brunei at the moment and I am wanting to bring the car over to malaysia as a personal vehicle. Please check the following url:

http://www.miti.gov.my/ekpweb/static.epub.contentdetailswoborders.screen?pageid=miti&_cat=BbgF8TF4MXa4570&_lang=en&0.54845271386499040.51885389423222580.06819992779993533&_cont=EPB0000144011&0.21135448343188346&_type=FULL&0.016631586505815754&0.30654455281663673

Does anyone knows if the conditions stated on the website is true and still valid? Also has anyone done this before, importing personal vehicle into malaysia after study or working abroad?

I also like to know procedures and taxation involved if anyone can help. Cheers guys!

i know of a chap who did bring back 2 cars from japan (he was there for 2 years or so) but it almost close to impossible to do so. (red tape & all).

I believe he however still need to get (purchase) an AP for it (besides your personal AP). >not certain<

Seems like a pain in the arse to do it, but it seems still possible... maybe troublesome? Do you think you can find out more details how it is done and how much tax to pay if its for personal use after working abroad. I own a Wrx Sti version 4, is it still possible to bring in performance cars like these? Thanks!

Okay the AP is not impossible to get, rather easy actually, as long as you have the proper documentation. First you have to get the JK69 form.

Ask them for a checklist. It would highlight all the required documentation from your part.

I got my student AP ard 1+ weeks.
You don't have to pay anything for a student AP. Not sure bout Working.

Once you get your AP you can ship your car back.
Then i suggest u find someone to handle the customs
processing over here. It will be a hassle.

The taxation will be based on the JPY when the car came out, the year it
was manufactured and CC

Example:
180SX 1994
Yen 2,160,000
-25% (Because Japanese Car) = 1620000
-70% (6 year depreciation) = 486,000
-10% x 6 (following 6 years) = 258,250
0.035 exchange rate = RM 9038 (FOB)
then some extra charges (cant remember)
= RM10,+++ (CIF)

So the duty will be charged according to the CIF
For 180SX 2.0
Duty, Eksais, Service Tax = 186%

So it will be ard RM18k for taxation
Then it's up to you to apeal to get lower CIF for your
car.
*this is example only, may vary depends on your car

Hope this helps

Cheers scheizer !
Thanks so much for your tip! I'm actually in Brunei now so if I do get my AP I just have to drive over the border to Sabah so it's pretty cheap for the "transportation fee". So i'll still have to shoot over to the customs for checking my car when I arrive? I have a 1998 Wrx Sti Version 4, some mods like the exhaust, pod filter bov, etc.... not very excessive. Does the customs check if the car is modded or they dont really care? U reckon you could estimate the cost of taxation I have to fork out?

errr... i thought student AP does not get any taxation?

Student AP got tax also..but i duno how much will they tax..anyone know abt it?!

There are no exemption from paying tax if you're using a student AP. Most people have this confused.

The only thing is that you don't have to pay for the student AP itself. If you don't have a student AP then you would have to get someone to sell you the AP which i think is around 20k. Not sure bout this thou.

I wouldnt know how much tax for your car. My calculations above based on my car hehehe ...

Why don't u call Custom Putrajaya and ask for a quotation.

G'Day!
Been reading this thread, interesting!
Would a Rally registration permit constitute as a form of registration? Looking at bringing my race car up there.

Think the market rate for AP now is 60K. For business that is.
