Hey guys, I'd appreciate any advice give on a particular problem I'm having with my car. I have a 4G92 MIVEC engine (using standard 4G92P engine block, crank and pistons), using the standard air filter, intake manifold and MIVEC extractor. Exhaust is a 1.7" pipe from the flexi-joint right to the back, with an S-flow muffler (in/out 1.7").

Recently, I've been experiencing some pretty bad acceleration with it. Thought it was in need of maintenance so I got it serviced. Currently using Pennzoil 20W-50 mineral engine oil and BKR7EKC-N-11 plugs. No difference after servicing as well :(

Even with the air-cond off, I notice that I've got to slowly press the accelerator in to get the best pick-up. Too much input and it becomes heavy (engine sounds strained but RPM climbs very slowly). Any idea what the problem could be?

I suspected a blocked exhaust system (symptoms are very similar), but there is air coming out of the tailpipe, and it's pretty warm, so I guess that's not the case....

did u re tune your ecu.......sometime after many mods the ecu still in stock u may experience slow accelerator

how about petrol? did you recently pump diff petrol ron 95? any knocking/pinging? check if the filter is blocked...checked if ur cam pulley lari or not... or check if ur distributor moved.. try change/borrow another ecu

other than that i really not sure la bro...

sorry for hijacking ur thread but hopes this helps. does engine oil has anything to do with engine knocking? previously, i used semi syn oil, had engine knocking. then used fully syn, no more. i mean that is what i think that made a difference in my car. can anyone confirm this?

if the viscocity of the oil is too low it can cause knocking. fully syn normally higher viscocity.

if yours is a stock b16a/b18c block with the normal CR, by right should not have knocking just because using semi syn. is your car tuned? maybe its too lean. using 95?

mine is b20. i dont think its running lean. its running rich actually. car is very mildly tuned. just ihe, chipped ecu. thats it i guess. yeap, using 95. now using fully syn with 95, no more knocking. the knocking i had experienced usually happens during rpm 4k or more. so, what do u think could be the prob?

Hey guys,

Thanks for your feedback! Nope, didn't do a retune yet... The connection port's cracked so the tuning device can't detect the ECU. Petrol.. I've been using Esso RON95 all this while.. no knocking so far. Cams are at 0deg in/out (stock).

I'll try changing the filters and just for the fun of it, the muffler. See how that goes...

b20 stock comp is even lower bro...by rght should not face knocking...what do you mean mild tune bro? who tuned it? if its just a chip then its not tuned....do you have a vafc?

but since running 95 im not so sure, but assuming if others running on 95 b20, dont face any knock, means your chip is lean towards 4k rpm, and maybe need to adjust your distributor... but bro maybe its bcoz ur running 95 u experience some knock....

My bad. Mine is a rechip, not tuned then. I'm not sure what's the CR. Most likely to be stock. Don't know what pistons are being used now. So, If i adjust my dizzy, should be ok? But recently, I don't have the knocking any more after I changed to the current engine oil.
