frens .. i've heard a lot of gud thing about this engine oil .. curenntly i'm driving civik EJ 79 Vtec sohc auto .... is it gud to use this oil .. advice ...

u mean the castrol gtx that cost rm32?the 10w-50 oil?that engine oil is another
multi viscosity oil tend for old engine with high mileage.

But we must beware that this engine oil ... got fake oil too ... do anybody know how to differentiate between Castrol Magnatec Semi withthe fake ...advice...

castrol GTX is 15w50.
just normal mineral oil.
but not sure about the API. last i saw SG.
gred.

magnatec is just mineral oil i think. if you look at the bottle carefully, there's no word saying that it's semi synthetic. instead iirc it says that the oil is engineered with synthetic technology or something. but of course castrol magnatec is much better than OEM mineral oil.

but most workshop i went to swears that it's semi synthetic. i used it once and it's okay.

as to how to differentiate if it's fake or genuine, there's a promotion going on iirc. buy a bottle of magnatec, get RM5 KFC voucher. :P

magnatec is semi syn bro.u can check it on the web.those gtx is for old car
thus the SG grade.yup, there's a fdake gtx in the market.yesterday i saw
1 but not sure it's fake or not.i saw a black residue inside the bottle after
i open it up.it's like a form of carbon on the base of it.i've kinda surprise
since that oil is new.

magnatec (10w40 i think) is mineral oil. not semi synthetic.
read it before at some other forums,
got some arguments about it.

KEEPS YOUR CAR AT ITS PEAK FOR LONGER
(Intelligent molecules for active and continuous protection from the moment you turn the key)

Castrol Magnatec is the only lubricant that combines intelligent molecules with synthetic technology for a stronger layer of protection from the moment you turn the key. Its intelligent molecules cling and bond to the metal surfaces in your engine, forming an extra layer that protects during start-up and beyond.
Benefits
Synthetic based engine oil
• Provide more protection than conventional engine oils during start-up and warm-up, when up to 75% of engine wear can occur
• Protect during all driving conditions and temperature
• Reduces engine wear by up to 70% in API SM testing (Seq IVA data)
• SAE 10W40 viscosity level for all climates
Applications
Castrol Magantec is recommended for all modern petrol and diesel family and sports car where the best in engine efficiency and engine protection is demanded
Performance Levels
Exceeds latest API SM/CF specification
• SAE 10W40
• ACEA A3/B3

note:mineral oil don't get approval from American Petroleum Institute
for SM/CF grade.for the time being that's the highest grade that engine
oil can attain from API.
when they say it base on synthetic, the oil is automatically partially mix
with synthetic substance meaning it's already semi-syn.

here's the rating from API.u can check out the rating .

in america, a bottle of mineral oil that has gone through extra chemical treatments and few percent of hydrocracked minerals can be labeled as synthetics as well.

castrol themselves have never really announce if their product is fully, semi or mineral. instead, they give vague terms like part synthetic, synthetic based, synthetic engineered and so on.

looking at SG's castol magnatec's page, they did not mention that it's semi synthetic, only synthetic based.

and if you look at castrol UK's site http://129.35.64.91/bpglis/lubtds.nsf/technicaldata/B338C08F7EC1D3DA8025722900504CF5?OpenDocument it says part synthetic.

and in indonesia's site, http://www.castrol.com/castrol/productdetailmin.do?categoryId=8118006&contentId=7028869 they just mentioned that it combines intelligent molecule with synthetic technology.
