I think I have infected my HDD but I am not sure what it is. I got the latest antivirus definitions but after scanning it shows no infection.
I'm running Windows XP Pro on nForce m/b, 256mb ddr ram, 40gb 7200 maxtor hdd, amd 1.2ghz, soundblaster live!, liteon cdrw, sony cdrom.
My old HDD had this problem I think it crashed but I also think it is a virus of some sort. Windows XP won't load and I get this blue screen after windows logo startup for a few seconds and the HDD never stops reading. The error messsage is unmountable_boot_drive. But it could be detected in the BIOS.
Later I got myself a new HDD then later the old m/b and ram acted up. I changed the m/b and got new ram too. Now everything was working fine until I got back the old hdd after claiming warranty.
Connected it the first time it overriden my new HDD as primary master. Checking in the BIOS its capacity was 60gb which was wrong. Then changing it to slave it could not be detected by the BIOS. Removing all the jumpers it can be detected in the BIOS and correct capacity which is 30gb.
Then in windows I used partition manager to format it so it can be accessible.
After testing it abit it look fine so I removed it and sold it off to a friend who wanted a cheap hdd. After removing it my current hdd is acting weird.
The other day after booting inside windows I left it alone for one minute before trying to play a game it crashed with a blue screen error. Something about "memory". Then now and then it does not boot. Just now it did not boot and had no display but I could see that the hdd was being accessed the light never stop blinking.
After on/off a few times it booted then I got online to check and send this.
I don't know what kinda virus it is but I need help before my system cannot boot at all.
