There's a long list to look for if you wanted to buy a used trek. It has been discussed before here. You might want to check the older pages here and look for the correct thread that we talked about this... if I have time, I look for it and paste it for you.

tq bro. because in my area, i think do not have any foreman know to repair or have experience on this car.

Your location says you're in KL. So you do not need to worry. We have a popular workshop with a mechanic that is expert with Airtrek and Evos. He can help to solve almost all issues. Location is Banda Kinrara.

I see... read the thread I shared. Will give you some ideas. But bear in mind, car is old, so no matter how good the condition is, there'll be repairs or maintenance unavoidable.

The last time i had a problem which was recently , I took my car to Kuala Kangsar Road . I will get u the exact add and the shop name once u get your monster.

wahh... side by side u mean 400m sprint haa? hehehe

anyway, gudluck bro biao on getting an airtrek.. on n all, engine parts are a no brainer job. most mechanic can overhaul one.. only some less popular parts kinda abit hard to find. it needs more effort than other more popular car... anyway dont worry, we're still here if u need help..

if engine fails, a good reason to just get 2.4L kit. hehehe....:wavey:

i just do not understand below checking:

- Pedal to metal to ensure the car doesn't jerk. Many Airtrek Turbo has this problem. It could be a variety of issues ranging from simple plug issue all the way to turbo or even MAF sensor which is not cheap to replace.
- Gearbox, drive fast and drive slow, do not turn on the audio and listen with windows close for any abnormalities, ensure no jerking, clanking and gear change is noiseless. Try the same with manual mode too.

2.4L? wah....

- Pedal to metal to ensure the car doesn't jerk. Many Airtrek Turbo has this problem. It could be a variety of issues ranging from simple plug issue all the way to turbo or even MAF sensor which is not cheap to replace.

Explanation: Fully depress the pedal and race the engine. Pull the RPM to 7000 rpm. Obser for problem like rough revving or jerking. If there is, it could have problems like I explained.

- Gearbox, drive fast and drive slow, do not turn on the audio and listen with windows close for any abnormalities, ensure no jerking, clanking and gear change is noiseless. Try the same with manual mode too.

Explanation: THis is to test the gearbox. Do not switch the radio on. Drive with 'D' and manual mode. play around with the gears. Notice for noise or jerking during gear change.

Yes, 2.4L is yummy and works perfectly well with bigger turbo. With adequate supporting mods, you get around 300whp.

If you find that the car has issues, I suggest you to give it a miss. Or if you really badly wanted it, send it to a mechanic you know and ask him to check.

What is your budget for this car?

yesterday finish work around 5.20pm, i saw a airtrek park at the main road beside kinta city ipoh, do not know is it member here?
is black colour, ipoh number plate.

Bro biao, do you plan to modify the Airtrek to get more juice out of it?

Let me share my story. When I bought my Airtrek, I was telling myself that I will not modify it. What more you need when you already have 240hp (well, that's the rating in the catalogue). Then when I drive it after some time, you'll feel that the car isn't really that fast.

10 year old Airtrek Turbo with no modification at all (untouch ya) with normal maintenance only will give you the most of 150-160whp. If condition is superb, maybe 170whp. Lugging that over 1600kgs chassis, 0 to 100 means around 9 secs. It's bullshit in the catalogue says 6.5 secs. Even lightly modded (exhaust, air filter and raised boost) Airtrek with stock internals and turbine will give you around 7 secs.

Morale of the story, unless you're really good and discipline NOT to touch it, then find a completely stock one. But I tell you, it's not going to be easy. Family type that owns those car, mostly have sold off cos it's too old. People who buys it are younger ones which for sure, modify it.

If you plan to be injected with poison by us here (hehehehe), it's OKAY to get a lightly modified one from the members here. Less worry, condition of our treks mostly are better than any car daelers claimed completely stock ones.

FYI, there are also quite a few members demodding the car back to stock just to sell... so your stock one, is it really 'virgin'? ... :)
