The main difference both cars.. if u compare the gearbox.. its that 1.5 wira is a 3 speed auto while 1.6 is a 4 speed auto...

Even if u have the best engine... but if the gearbox sucks... the whole car will be shit.

1.6 auto also quite powerful. Good highway cruiser. Nice engine sound after 3500rpm. Fuel consumption also good. Rule of thumb is, if you use the performance it will cost you. But change to manual gearbox and watch the fella fly.

I have wira 1.6 a/b auto and 1.5 manual. Frankly, I find the 1.6
auto has better FC compared to the 1.5. Engine sounds smoother
and much better handling than 1.5. Maybe due to the front dampers
and the anti-roll bar at the back. Heard a lot of rumours about the 1.6
gearbox but my 1997 1.6 still standing strong with regular service
intervals. Hope this feedback is useful to you.

1.6 - rear anti roll bar 1.5 - nope
1.6 - 4 gear 1.5 - 3 gear
1.6 - 16 valve 1.5 - 12 valve
1.6 - FC better 1.5 - FC a bit higher

Basically, 1.6(A) is more performace and 1.5(A) is more to easy ride. 1.5(A) 3 gear box is not really underpower, is ok for town ride or mayber look for SE setup feel better performance and good handling. Yes, 1.5(A) engine sound a bit louder when after 110km/h.

I own and choose 1.5(A) instead 1.6(A) is due to 1.5(A) easy and less headache maintenance and I'm not look for performance. BTW, 1.5(A) still can go 140km/h is u wish to. But, I not say 1.6(A) is not good or 1.5(A) is better, it is really depends on you. Your need, your desire, your wallet and etc......

my 2 cents ....

as far as i know,
at PLUS highway,
1.6A have better FC than 1.5A,
1.6A have a lower RPM compare with 1.5A for 110KMH.

1.5 and 1.6 is not similiar at all . juz tat its still mitsu :P

1.5 proton are from the 4G1x family and the 1.6 proton are from the 4G9x family.

1.5 1.6
4G15 4G92
86hp (roughly on engine) 112hp (on engine)
12v (3 per piston) 16v (4 per piston)
SOHC (only*) SOHC (can change to DOHC or Mivec)
5M.T/3A.T 5M.T/4A.T

* Mitsu new colt using 4G15 DOHC! .. dunno can change the cam no =)

Even for the Manual version, the 1.6 has longer Gear ratio, means when u go for DRaging.. may be 1 and 2 gears 1.5 leads then.. 1.6 will come over taking .. Highway driving will have much more advantage with longer gear ratio .. better FC of coz
